In the oasis of the Bani al-Najm tribe, Otba walked with his brother to inspect the state of the oasis.
Saif said, “according to our men’s survey, this oasis will last us for two months, our number is very large, and the oasis is small, but it is sufficient.”
Otba responded. “Good, do you provide for all of the members of the tribe? Are the provisions divided between them fairly?”
“This morning our men started distributing the food supplies. What do you think about going to take a look?”
“Why not.”
They went to a corner in the oasis where the poor people stood in line, waiting for their role in obtaining what they had gained from the oasis. Otba cheered, sitting on his knees, carrying a basket of dates to participate in the distribution, and he noticed that people rushed to him because of it. During that timd he looked to his brother.
“What surprises me is their hurry to line up this time! Usually we do this three days after we settle down, but the parents are in a hurry this time!”
No sooner had Otba finished speaking, than an old lady approached him and raised her hands to the sky.
“God bless you, son, because of you today all the poor will take their share with justice – just as they used to in your era previously. May God protects you from the evil of enemies and their machinations.” The old woman left and smiled at Otba. It was a smile marred by a kind of sadness and pain.
After Saif went on. “After your isolation, the residents suffered from the rule of Rammah a lot. The supply of soldiers affected the population, and after he finishes, the rest would be distributed to the people. The leftovers are not enough for them, and they have no power to complain to our father, Qais, for the fear of the oppression of Rammah.”
Otba raised eyebrows. “And how I was not aware of this? Did all of this chamge happen in only six months? What about our father?”
“I was aware, and I was afraid to inform you should you grow angry, and my father's anger touches you more and he orders—”
“Hush! Whatever happens, it will not come to my father’s mind, the command to kill me. God guide you Saif. The poor did not believe that I took over the oasis today, so they preferred to take their share quickly before my father returned, and he is not aware of what Rammah is doing! Let's continue our tour.”
