When Julie turned sixteen, life turned around

Helen and Rodger's relationship was shaky. Helen was starting to lose trust in her husband when he started coming home from work late. It started off around thirty minutes. Chalked up to working a little overboard. Thirty minutes became an hour. Just over time. But an hour became two, then three, then four...

DATE: August 4, 2016.

Helen caught Rodger cheating on her with Sweetie (Mrs. Alvarez). She filed for divorce and Rodger moved to California. The Alvarez couple divorced as well. Julie never saw her father again.

DATE: Mid September, 2016

PLACE: Lous' house.

Julie went to a party at Lous' house. Sandi (who had moved to Canada two months before) came all the way from Vancouver just to be there.

"Yo, Jewels. Wanna sip?" Rod said from behind. Julie smiled and took a drink without asking what it was.

She spat it out on Rod's shoes. "What the holy cap was that?!" Julie exclaimed. Lous came by.

"Beer, Julie. It ain't that bad." Lous' pep was slurred, and she accented it with a hiccup. She then invited Julie, and only Julie, upstairs to her room.

They sat on her grey shag carpet, and Lous pulled a box out from under her bed. She opened it to reveal the unthinkable; marijuana.

That night, Julie did the unbelievable.
