Mary Sue drove along from house to house, delivering packages, the regular stuff she did, all day, every day. She yawned, and took a long swig from her blonde Caffe Americano with a triple espresso shot she had gotten from Starbucks an half hour ago. She only had one package left to deliver before she could finally go home and get some sleep. The package went to 666 Avenue on Angels drive, which was about a mile South of where she was now. Mary adjusted her long frizzy brown hair back into it's sloppy ponytail and sighed.
"Good thing packages are easy to deliver," She told herself, "and I get paid this week."
While driving, Mary spotted a group of three cars on her trail, black vans with no widows, and a strange L symbol on the hood.
"Heck no," Mary hissed, "I'm not ending up like that poor John kid."
John Doe had been a young man, 21, who had been delivering a package to someone when he was chased down by three black vans... His body was later found in someones back yard.Mary sped up, still going at the speed limit, her car was big, and hard to stop in time since the brakes tended to stick and slip, she didn't want to accidently hit anyone. Unfortunately, the cars behind her sped up as well, and Mary saw two people dressed in green and black get on the hood of the vans with some sort of grappling hook.
"Screw it!" She cried, slamming on the gas.
Her UPS truck lurched forward, tires squealing, Mary could smell hot rubber, but she didn't care, these creeps weren't getting her. Their cars were gaining on her, and an idea came to Mary that she wouldn't have imagined possible. She grabbed the package, unbuckled her seat belt, and jumped out the door of her UPS truck! She crashed onto the cement, breaking her left arm, and skinning most of the left side of her body. Her hip felt like it may be dysfunctional, she was lucky she hadn't hit the ground head first, or she wouldn't have much of one anymore.
"I need a raise for this..." She groaned, pushing herself up.
The package had opened, a leather bound book lay inside, it had no title, and had a lock on it, which had broken in the fall.
"what is this for anyway?" Mary huffed, picking up the book, "Those creeps really wanted it."
Mary looked around, the three black vans were nowhere to be seen, they must've been focusing so much on getting on top of her car that they hadn't seen her leave... or they had and thought the package was still in the car. Mary turned the book in her hands a few times, and then sighed.
"This might be a bad idea." She told herself, opening the book.
A blast of green and black mist shot from the book, and the whole book vanished, Mary was now staring at a female figure with jet black hair, green cats eyes, and a flowing emerald dress.
"Thank you dear," The woman purred, stretching herself out, "I've been in that stupid book for eons!
"Uhhhhhh." Mary blinked.
"Dear me you've been hurt pretty badly," The woman gasped, "I can fix that." The woman waved her hand and all of Mary's injuries healed.
