Trying to find the performance stage is like walking through a giant labyrinth maze. The park filled up with vendor booths, performance spaces, and visitors. The group had to wave their way into the chaos to keep forging to their destination.
While the group walked, Darren listened to Jesse and Amelia conversation on the way to the park. Darren overheard him talked a lot about their band, The NorthEasters to her. He turned his attention to The Hexes's leader, the tall olive skinned man. The man who followed Amelia who goes by the name, Nick. On the other side of Amelia, the leather jacket man is texting on his phone. This man, Toby, who Amelia referred to him as her "brother". In the back of the three of the group, a dark-skinned man and a girl who tried to follow them. The man's eyes look weary and his face showed a 5 o'clock shadow as he walked in a slow pace. The poor guy looked exhausted. Darren took a glance at the girl who looked perkier than the man. Her kinky hair radiates in the summer light as she walked close beside the man.
"Gabby, Nicola! Step it up!" Nick bellowed at them.
"Coming!" The girl ran up to them, grabbing the man's hand, pulling him up.
Darren felt something strange with the group. It is a feeling, an odd feeling. As a magic user, he always had that feeling whenever he is around people like him. These people aren't regular out-of-town locals. Feeling an enormous surge of energy pushing his body. It almost felt like a huge wind almost knocking him to the ground! This powerful energy is coming from The Hexes. Darren wondered if these people have an Aura. Aura is a magical energy that most supernaturals have access to use their abilities.
Finally, the group arrived at the performance stage in a neck of time! Darren and his friend met with their impatient band leader, Linda Falls. Linda was tapping her foot when the three friends arrived up the stage. Darren went to park his bike near backstage before meeting up with the group again. Darren, Chantel, and Jesse had to get ready first and started set up their instruments.
“This is what you get for being late.” Linda said in a stern tone.
"It was only by a minute." Darren remarked.
"You know how punctual Linda is, Darren." Another tall black man walked over to the Chantel, Jesse, and Darren.
"Well, Jesse held us up because he just had to be too nice to people, Trenton." Darren's eyes shifted over to Jesse who is tuning his guitar.
"Being nice doesn't cost you anything, Darren." Jesse answered back at his friend.
"Sometimes you're just way too nice." Darren rolled his eyes as he pulled out his bass guitar from his case. He sat down in a chair nearby and tuned his bass guitar.
Darren kept glancing at The Hexes throughout his band entire rehearsal. The Hexes were standing by mingling with the other musicians. The one member that stood out to him is Amelia. She is, like Jesse, too friendly and had a big bubbly personality. He noticed that Amelia had a bright pink wristband on her wrist. That's more proof that The Hexes are Supernaturals! Only Supernaturals can wear wristbands. Well, with a few exceptions that is.
Suddenly, Darren felt a stab on his wrist and took a quick look back at his wristwatch to see the display.
The screen displayed: Aura Suppression Level at: 70%
"Shit" He thought to himself and is lucky enough that his band's rehearsal time slot is short. It wouldn't talk too long to go through since other bands need a turn on the stage. The headliner took up most of the rehearsal time The NorthEasters and Apple Queens are supporting acts for the first night.
Darren's fingers were tumbling, and sweat mounted down his face while he plays his bass guitar. The breathing became faster. He couldn't go on like this longer.
"Just a little longer" Trying to concentrate on playing, he needed to get so get through the set!
When the band finished their rehearsal set, but he couldn't take this sickness any longer. Darren rushed himself off the stage saying nothing to his bandmates. He felt an uncontrollable urge to puke as he scrabbled to one of the porta potties nearby.
Ripping off his wristband, Darren saw the display again:
Aura Suppression Level at: 90%
His eyes went wide in shock then he vomited into the toilet. It was not normal for this wristwatch device to be changing settings like this at a whim.
After finished vomiting, Darren headed back out as he cleans himself up fast. He acted like nothing serious has happened when he left the porta-potty. Rushing to the pond, Darren observed his surroundings for Non-Supernaturals. No Non-Magic Users. All cleared then!
Darren bend over and put his hand into the water. This got to be the way to release his magic without causing chaos.
Darren whispered a spell to himself in hopes he would just make a small brief splash. A small ripple produced and a bright white light coming from the water. He breathed a sigh of relief but then the water ripples got bigger and bigger in rapid time.
Darren cursed to himself, "Shit..."
