From the sound of birds chirping and her alarm clock ringing, Elora wakes up to the start of a new day. While she yawned and stretched, she heard her mother's usual calling, "oh! Ms. Elora Arivae! Breakfast. Now." "Coming" Elora sleepily replied. She got up and prepared her morning routine, which of course includes wearing her brown contact lens. Both of Elora's step-parents had brown eyes, but she really didn’t care about covering up her very light blue eyes. She wanted to fit in with her so-called "family."
"Did you forget what's happening today?" Elora's mother asked.
Elora sighed, as she sat down the table and nervously said "I really need to go? Do I"
Elora's mother chuckled, "Yup, and you can't miss it!"
Around the table, sat her mother and father, they ate breakfast together. Elora's family consists of just her and her parents, or more so, her step-parents. She was their step-daughter. From afar, a person would think that all of them would be related, however, closer, the difference in facial features are noticeable. Elora's step-parents seem to have a Caucasian descent while Elora was closer to an Asian linage. Elora was still grateful though, she had a "family."
Only the sounds of metal hitting metal were present. For a moment, she felt about speaking her feelings of excitement, but she decided not to instead. She didn't really feel close to her step-parents, and she didn't spend that much time with them yet. She really wanted to. She felt as if there was a barrier. Somehow part of her also felt like her current step-parents are just trying to do their duty as foster parents. Suddenly, Senthya, Elora's mom stopped her hand movements, dropped her utensils on her plate, and spoke.
"Have you prepared for your credentials? What about your advance writings?" Elora's mom asked with a straight tone.
"Yes, mom. I have them prepared." As Elora replied, she thought of how hard she had worked on her research, but she felt like her efforts were unnoticed. No matter, she did this for herself. All those years of reading books and articles, she missed out on a lot of pleasurable experiences.
"Good, now always remember what I told you okay?"
"Yes mom"
"Honey, I don't want any trouble today? Don’t forget your AU-watch!"
"Don't worry mom… I have it" while Elora waves with the watch on her wrist.
Elora has always thought that the family rule was a bit weird but she knew her Mom only meant for the best. Throughout the years she would still doubt. Her stepfather, Bragos, was just quietly reading the papers, as usual. He paid no attention to other family matters, as his duty and priority were more for the community itself. Bragos is a board of director of a research finance company whilst Senthya owned a chemical lab facility. Elora's step-parents had accomplished a lot.
She had specifically remembered during her teen years, most of the teachers had high expectations of Elora as a student. She was pressured, and she definitely missed out half of her life trying to study. Elora didn't regret all the things she did. She still stood strong despite her out-casted experience in high school. She continued to live and walk through her path. Her life wasn't easy but she had a specific goal in mind.
That day was a cold morning in the city of Adalyn. Leaves fell on the ground as the season of fall entered. As Elora said her short farewells, she wore her AU-watch. A device that was like a handphone and also had plenty of perks. She looked up, and the beautiful sky caught her attention. On her way to the university, she was walking on the white paved path. She wasn't allowed to walk through the black paved path beside it. As she walked to her daily route, Elora noticed that she was a bit earlier than usual. "Was it because of the new change of weather? Or was it because she was returning to her University life?" she pondered. She decided to stop by her favorite garden park. These types of public places are usually called grey places. Grey places are usually heavily guarded by the government, however, this park always seemed to be abandoned. Due to the lack of people who socialize, the park seemed like a good place to be alone.
The park was huge, there were plenty of trees but not a single soul was found. The entrance also had unkept surveillance. Seems that the area was deprived of the maintenance budget. The park looked empty and isolated. It wasn't just in sense of abandonment but more so with a sense of loneliness.
One tree caught her eye, the tree was the oldest among other trees. The tree's peak had touched the sky. Beautiful with scars and scratches. Elora sat down, to grab a shade from the glistening sun rays. Her hair ran through her shoulders and rested at the back of her waist. She laid down and rested with the feeling of ease and comfort. She couldn't explain why she was used to the quietness, the feeling brought back a past sensation. Was it a memory from her childhood? Elora thought it would be a good idea to read a book. She had a specific liking to anything that helped distract her mind. She didn’t remember much from her childhood however, she recalls values that were taught to her. Elora had always remembered a quote, "Any knowledge should always be learned." She would always try to remember who said it, however, no one seemed to ring a bell.
As time passed by, the air became a little chilly causing Elora to loudly sneeze. Unladylike and uncontrollably. As she sneezed, her back hit the trunk firmly. "Ughh!!" someone with a deep voice shouted.
It all happened too quickly and too swift. The leaves fell, and her book dropped. To Elora's surprise, she was seeing a guy who was just a couple of inches away from her. Face to face. The guy's distinctively flawless hair covered his eyes a little, but Elora was in awe. Still, she could see a glimpse of his eyes. His eyes calmed her, it was all so clear. She sees emotions that were gentle yet merciless. Their eyes matched to a level. "What? How?" Elora thought.
Elora noticed a sense of comfort and familiarity. She couldn't understand what she was feeling. Even so, she thought of why does this type of event happen anyway? Everything seemed all too circumstantial. As if the universe all planned this to happen, a peculiar guy falling from a beautiful tree, and landing coincidentally on a curious girl. Her impulse made her straighten her body, but that only made their position worst. A very stupid move that she didn’t calculate. As the guy's arms tried to support him, the gravity and force weren't on his side. His arms bent. They exchanged stares as something touched, "What are the odds that this could happen..." Elora thought. Both of them were shocked as they did something that was forbidden.
In Adalyn city, the act of a slight touch or skin contact between two opposite sex is prohibited.
And their lips touched.
