The kiss felt strange, new, and mysterious for Elora, one thing that struck her most was the feeling of warmness. This feeling that she had been longing for. She hadn't experienced her first kiss, but she felt a nostalgic feeling. The sensation of a new and old feeling.
Skin contact between the opposite sex is not allowed. Once a contact takes place, the must-option is to report to the government, and they'll take care of the contact case. No one knows why human contact isn't possible, but people have just been following the laws for decades at least. One thing is for sure, people know that the laws were made to save human lives. Abiding by the laws guarantees one's safety.
For strangers, and even people living in the same house, the strict rule applies. No touch, no contact, no exception. Social distancing was a matter of life or death. The advanced technologies had made it possible for humans to still habilitate and co-exist. The government released statements that same-sex contacts aren't as dangerous, however human contact is still prohibited and is still not advised. At all cost, there shouldn’t be any forms of physical contact between human beings.
"Damn it!" Elora thought as she tried to assess the situation that she's in.
Slowly, the guy pulled away. From that moment on, they stared for a while. "This is too carefree. This is new. This is…" Elora couldn't explain as her thoughts were a mess. This intrigued her. Slowly, she closed her eyes. Her hands lifted away from the book. The guy who tried to rely on his arms to stay away, also slowly leveraged to become closer.
The two young adults were curious.
In the heat of the moment, they kissed for a short moment. They peaked their surroundings while kissing, with no guards. As they kissed, their hands touched each other's bodies. They felt warmth. When the guy was about to touch their Elora's face, she yelled "wait!" Elora pushed away from the guy. For the first time, Elora felt something she couldn't explain, and something she didn't learn from the books. She felt embarrassed, awkward but baffled. "Is this the reason why skin contact is forbidden? Why am I feeling this way" she wondered. Suddenly, she got back to her senses. She knew distance is what they needed, but Elora felt this natural sensation. Elora remembered her mothers' words, "Stay away from trouble" and by trouble meaning not breaking the number one law. She knew she had to resolve this matter.
She looked around the area. Around the corners of her eyes, she saw a glimpse of a moving shadow. She thought that her eyes were fooling her. "Maybe it was just the wind or something…" She thought as she tries to convince herself. She was always paranoid anyways.
As the guy fell on his back, he also became confounded. Elora saw the look in his eyes. She knew that he really didn't mean it. They were both attracted to it anyways. The temptation was resurfacing. Elora saw the intent in the guy's eyes. He was inviting. When the guy has come to his realization of what had just happened, he tried to crawl backward.
"What did you just do?", Elora whimpered, and looked around to check again. "I… you…" the guy mumbled but was almost speechless.
She once again looked around, fear crawled down her spine. Usually, public areas are equipped with surveillance cameras. Elora's mother had told her about cases where defiance of Law 1 was committed. She had also read a few of scenarios to what happens to lawbreakers. Adalyn City is a peaceful place but not a merciful one. Society isn't the one that holds the power, but the government does, specifically, the senior elder does. People who break the laws are relocated to another city. No one knows what happens then because people never get in touch.
Elora tries to read the guy's reaction, both of them were frightened. Somehow a sense of curiosity prompted Elora to go near to the guy. Instead of fear overcoming her, her curiosity overpowered her. She did realize this was her first time coming close to a guy too. She had experienced being near to her step-father, but this was a different case.
The guy was wearing long sleeves. However, the sleeves rolled up a little bit, she noticed a scar on his right arm. A long scar, it was as if someone tried to slash his arm off. This small detail got Elora even more curious because a section in their constitution states that any harm done to one's body and to other people's bodies is strictly prohibited. Law 2 was meant to take clean precautions of exposing the blood which can also be worse as physical contact. Blood was considered valuable and important to society. Elora's curiosity wanted to ask how he got away with it, however, the scar didn't look new. Elora was not rude, to begin with.
Elora quickly picked up her stuff and ran as fast as she could. Elora's fear had overcome her. She couldn't explain what she was feeling. Panic? Shock? Fear? Or even… "No don't say it." she tried to convince herself. As much as possible she quickly thought of having space between her and the guy. She didn't want any bystander to witness or report to the officials. She felt a little lucky as she thought no other citizen saw what happened. She felt insecure, as she looked her at surroundings often.
"Wait! I didn’t mean-" the guy shouted as he tried to stand up.
However it was too late, Elora was far enough to even hear him. He too was flabbergasted. He felt sudden guilt and glum. He had just kissed a girl, he never met. He didn't want anyone to get in trouble. He was guilty. Guilty of kissing her and guilty of maybe wanting to do it again. He was infatuated.
Elora who was already far from the tree looked back. Again, their eyes connected. They both had mixed feelings. Although, Elora was more afraid because her parents had repeatedly taught her to be careful. Elora had high regard and trust for her step-parents. She felt a little disappointed. So, she turned her head and continued to her route, classes were about to start soon anyways. There stood a guy alone under the shade of the magnificent tree. The last image he saw from the girl, was her shining hair flowing where the winds blow.
Both had an image to remember, and most importantly, a kiss to forget.
From this moment on, Elora's whole perspective in life changed, just because of this one guy.
