"Have you ever thought that in your life? This life right now that you are living is a lie. Everything that you have been told throughout your life is not what it seems." Zarina moved around the stage as everyone's eyes followed her. "What if I told you that you are one of the special ones? You all have the potential to do great wonders to the world. What if I told you that there are people who have tried to stop you from unleashing that potential?" Zarina told the crowd which Leticia thought that this whole talk was starting to get odd. Zarina changed the PowerPoint slide which showed an image of a town. Leticia looked at this beautiful lush town closely and her eyes couldn't take her focus off of it.
"Why does this town look familiar?" She thought.
"This town is a lovely town called Roseland. To a normal person's eyes, it can be a simple town. But sadly, in the same normal people's eyes, they can't see that this town exists. You all in this very room are the only ones that can see it." Zarina explained.
"Excuse me, is this a joke?!" One person in the crowd called as people stared at a plump young woman, standing up from her seat.
"Believe what you want. But this town exists. All I ask of you. How many of you all have seen this town every night from the time you are young? If you haven't seen it, that means you aren't one of the special ones, aren't you? Raise your hands if you have seen it." Zarina gazed at the audience and waited for them to respond.
One hand went up. Leticia looked around as soon as there was a shot of more hands going up in the air answering Zarina's questions. It wasn't long until Chantel and Darren had raised their hands high in the air.
Leticia went back to her memory as far back when she was a child. Every night, she looked at her bedroom window as far back into the forest and mountains outside of Clare Point View. She saw lights, bright lights that didn't seem like it came from one house. But multiple houses! Each time, she saw those lights; she asked her parents where they came from. But her mother and father simply told her it was just some people who were working out in the woods. This answer never satisfied her at all. Leticia's hand went right up fast as she believed that Zarina is onto something.
"Congratulations! I can see all of you raised your hands up. My recruiters never find the wrong people. You are all one of the special ones. You are all part of a race that people kept you from being who you are. Your true selves. Each of you are all Supernaturals. All of you from different races with different special abilities. This society had poisoned you to believe otherwise.... This may not make sense to you now but after this lecture, this may change your mind." Zarina switched the slide again which showed a video that came on for all the audience to see.
The video showed a well lit office background with a black desk and armchair. A man in a blue business suit who looked in his middle aged has been sitting in the armchair. Leticia continued to watch this man where he had flashed a charismatic smile.
"Welcome, lost ones! My name is Mikel Richardson. The founder of the Rise of Light. You are here because my fellow followers have found you. Don't be scared. I'm here to help you. I'm helping you by giving you the offer to free yourself." Mikel took a sip from his black tea cup then continued to look at the camera. "People fear what they don't know. We can protect you from those who fear you. Don't think it's time for you to know the real truth?" Mikel's tone had a calm and pleasant sound to Leticia's ears.
Leticia didn't know what to think until Mikel showed something weird on the screen. She saw an injured older woman who looked like she was in her forties. She had a fresh burn mark across her arm where it started to heal itself before Leticia's eyes! She is confused about how the wound was able to heal so quickly!
"Don't be alarmed. This healing is all the work from her ability. She is a Bio-Kinesis." Mikel pointed out to relax the audience.
"Is magic real? Or was her mind playing tricks on her?"
Over the course of the video, she watched many people with different supernatural abilities and appearances as she thought this looks like something that came out of a horror movie! When the video finished, she felt even more confused on how this stuff has to do with her. Still, she can't be like those weird people. There is no such thing as magic!
"You may not believe all this. I can tell you why... Some spineless Supernatural doctors who worked with those evil non-supernatural doctors created a device that suppress your abilities and aura. They say to protect people and it is for the greater good." Mikel had walked over to the desk then took another sip of his tea and spat, " But they are dead wrong..."
Leticia had continued to sit in her chair as sweat came down her face. This man went further to explain how there were many more devices 'to keep people like them in line'. When the video showed one device on the screen which immediately raised her eyes in shock!
The video explained what the device is. It had a name: Biological Magical Stimulation. A device that sends electric pulses to the person's brain to suppress a person's supernatural powers and aura. Leticia had a device that looked like this, implanted in her body. She touched her chest scar as Mikel had explained about the device in more detail.
"This is messed up." Leticia muttered. She wished that this was a dream or some kind of sick joke.
After watching the video, it concluded with Mikel standing up from his desk. Mikel had a smile and extended his hand out, "Join us. We can help you find the truth and help many more people like us. Come with us. Once you learn the truth, we can set more people free."
The video ended as people whispered towards each other. Some people felt even confused while others had a rage of anger coming out after the video ended. One person stood up and yelled at Zarina, "This is bullshit! I bet you all made this all up!"
"I assure you all. We wouldn't lie to you unlike your family and the adults you have known all your life." Zarina stated.
Another person popped up and yelled at the other person, "Then how does this explain this if this is a lie!"
The person moved their hands in motion as the room suddenly became windy . A swoosh of cold wind blowing through the room and knocked a chair over. Leticia grasped and felt a bit jumpy seeing this. One thought came from her head:
"What the hell I just watched?"
Soon there were many people displaying different abilities left and right around. Others revealed that have supernatural attributes such as elf ears and animistic features like cat ears. These people who were hiding all these things probably most of their lives. Evidence started to pile up which almost led to chaos in the lecture hall.
Leticia sat there still shocked and wasn't sure what to believe among the sea of young adults either feeling enraged or in denial. A loud bang roared in the room as people turned their attention to Mercedes who had a gavel in her hand. She slammed it on the podium to quiet the crowd. Her face showed a demeanor of order then went soft when people looked at her.
"I know how you are feeling. You're angry and confused. It takes time to get used to this knowledge. This is why we are reaching out to you first before anyone else. There are many people like you who found out about this for the first time before they joined us. I promise you, The Rise of Light would never lie to you. Our leader would guide you to your true potential. So you have two choices: Continue your denial and internal suffering or come with us on the path of the truth to happiness." Mercedes explained.
Leticia looked at how calm and poised Mercedes spoke to the rough crowd. The girl stepped aside to allow Zarina to take over once again.
The woman cleared her throat to speak, "I know this information may be too much for you for one night. Take your time processing this information. We won't rush your decision. When the time is right, you can come to us. Under your chairs, you have our business card and a pamphlet that have our next events listed. Our next event will be a bake sale at Rockwick in Tetbury Church of Gospel next Saturday. You are all welcome to join us and meet our leader." Zarina announced.
After that she said that, many of the audience members did the action Zarina directed them to do. Leticia took the pamphlet and business card. The meeting concluded as many people either went to the group members to ask for more questions. Leticia, Chantel, and Darren got up from their seats and headed to the hallway. Leticia noticed that Darren's palms were shaking as they walked out. The three of them stood in silence until Chantel spoke up, "This is a joke, right? Darren, do you believe in any of that stuff?"
"Let's just go home, Chantel." Darren took Chantel's hand and tried to rush Chantel passing Leticia.
"Do you remember at summer camp when we tried to look for that abandoned town in the woods when we were eleven? Now this group is talking about this town living under our noses! I watched you shaking around during that segment where they talked about that! I'm getting the feeling you knew more of what happened after we blanked out that night, Darren." Leticia asked Darren.
Leticia saw Darren stopped walking then turned around and face her. He bit his lip before opening his mouth to talk about that event.
"I don't know and I blanked out just like you all. Plus, it happened when we were kids! I told you many times to let it go the last time you asked! I mean, do you really believe that group? A town full of Supernaturals living near us?" Darren ranted as Chantel touched his shoulder to calm down.
"Darren, there is no need to get defensive. We can just go and we don't need to bring that up again." Chantel said. Then she went to snap at Leticia , "What the hell is wrong with you?! That was not necessary to bring that up, Leticia!"
"Calm down! I am just asking! He looked nervous and seemed to be on edge when I watched him! I know when I asked you guys about it before only you didn't seem to remember what happened to us years ago! But Darren always avoided the question! Now you're going to tell me that you believe his BS he told us now?! He doesn't know my ass! I bet he is keeping the truth from you, Chantel. " Leticia shot back at Chantel getting into her face which made Chantel move backwards.
"Look, Leticia, why does this even matter right now?! All of this is confusing and I don't know who to believe anymore! I just found out tonight that our entire lives may be a lie and we happened to be Supernaturals!"
"It matters because this could be connected! What happened to us when we were eleven, and what we heard tonight! What if it's all part of the same thing? Look, I'm confused just as you but something is strange about this. We may not even be Supernaturals after all. It could be a joke or a mistake." Leticia explained.
"Mikel doesn't make mistakes. He knows how to find his special ones quite well." Roland appeared from the doors outside the lecture hall then butted between the three.
"That's creepy.... Where the hell you came from?" Leticia jumped when Roland entered the conversation.
"It's not. Supernaturals usually attract each other. We can sense each other's auras and commune together that way. There is no doubt about it all three of you are Supernaturals and we all felt your aura before inviting you here. It's just the two of you need to be free to use your abilities. And trust me, I think Mr. Cross knows more about auras, don't you? You knew all along about this far longer before this meeting." Roland directed his eyes towards Darren. Leticia noticed Darren gave Roland the nastiest glare back.
"Look, it's late. I'm tired. Let's just go home." Darren huffed in frustration and walked away from the group as Chantel tagged behind him.
Leticia did want to apologize for interrogating Darren. Her big mouth ruined it for her once again and now all she wanted was to take all this information in! Leticia saw her brother come out of the lecture hall to take her back to her apartment. She followed him out of the building then headed to the car.
The Hernandez siblings did not talk to each other on the drive back to Leticia's apartment that she lived with her boyfriend. Leticia had her arm up on the armrest stand with her head leaning on her hand. Raphael parked the car at her red brick tall apartment. When Leticia popped the car door open and her brother spoke before she walked inside, "Take this one day at a time, sis. Okay? I know everything seems confusing now but it will all make sense when the time is right."
With that, Leticia stood there and nodded then went into the building. She walked up the stairs alone in her thoughts about everything. The summer camp incident, her unexplained illness, and Darren's odd behavior at the meeting. She doesn't know if anything makes sense. At least nothing in her life right now makes sense.
She thought to herself: "What is the truth?"
