Two months had passed surprisingly fast for Eric. There had been no more unexpected visitors or arguments since his first day living with Roth and his family.
That struck him as a little odd since what they had fought over wasn’t something as simple as using the wrong toothbrush. It seemed like a legitimate thing to get upset over.
Eric had tried to ignore the strange feeling as much as possible but he felt like something big was going to happen soon.
He didn’t like feeling anxious about things.
On top of that, despite sharing the same room with Kayden, Eric had barely seen him after his first week living there. It wasn’t like he expected to see Kayden everyday but considering they shared a room, it was quite the feat to not run into each other.
There had been the occasional sightings and dinners over the past two months though nothing remarkable to commit to memory.
Eric let out a deep, sleepy sigh as his alarm clock blared, demanding he wake up to face his first day of senior year at yet another new high school. He was determined to stick to himself this year.
What was the point of making friends if you eventually left anyways?
“Now now,” came a deep voice that sounded inches away from Eric’s ear. “We can’t have any of the dramatics on your first day of school!”
Eric groaned loudly as he felt the bed covers rudely pulled away from him, exposing his boxers and baggy T-shirt. “Kayden!”
Amused eyes met Eric’s as he rubbed sleep from his eyes. “My dad’s making us breakfast which is quite a rare treat. Normally Mo—Susan does all the cooking but she hasn’t been cooking recently...”
The atmosphere suddenly became heavy and Eric tried hard to ignore the suspicions he was starting to form in his mind the longer he lived here. “Why are you so energetic this early in the morning.”
Kayden shrugged before rising to his feet. “If you’re not downstairs in ten minutes, that’s you giving me unspoken agreement to get you up however I see fit.”
Goosebumps rose on Eric’s bare arms as he met Kayden’s playful glare. “Whatever,” he mumbled, glancing at the time. He wouldn’t be late if he slept for twenty more minutes.
Kayden only responded with a laugh before leaving the room.
Eric had somehow managed to snuggle back under the covers and fall back into a deep sleep.
He was, however, rudely awakened again when someone tried removing the covers again.
“Five more minutes,” he grumbled, hiding his head further under the blanket.
Kayden let out a light laugh. “I gave you ten minutes, Eric. Ten whole minutes and you still aren’t up.”
Eric made no reply back, trying to enjoy the blissful moment of peace before he was forced to take on the world.
Suddenly, without warming, Eric felt Kayden lay directly on top of him, wrapping his arms around him and keeping him trapped in the now very warm blanket.
“Kayden!” Eric groaned as his head popped up from under the covers. “What are you doing? I could have slept for ten more minutes!”
Kayden laughed and let most of his body weight rest against Eric, causing him to gasp as air escaped his body. “I told you I’d come back if you didn’t come downstairs for breakfast.”
Eric opened his mouth to snap back but quickly closed it when he realized how close their faces were. He had never seen Kayden’s eyes so close before and he was momentarily stunned by the sheer beauty he saw.
Shaking his head, he let out a sigh. “Fine. You win. Get off.”
Kayden glanced at the clock and smirked down at Eric. “You have at least five more minutes according to your schedule. Let’s sleep a little bit longer.”
Eric narrowed his eyes at Kayden. “How am I supposed to sleep with your body weight on top of me.”
Without warming, Kayden dropped his entire weight on Eric who let out a groan of pain. In return, Eric somehow managed to roll over and push Kayden off the bed and onto the floor. He landed with a satisfying thud.
Eric held back a sigh, trying his best not to blush. Why couldn’t Kayden be like any normal person and hate the waking hours of early morning?
Because this is exactly how he wanted to start his first day of school.
“Asshole.”
Kayden’s laugh reached him from the floor.
