Also, I had the same problems with wide/double spread shots on my comic due to the 940px max res limitation on tapastic. Resizing the whole image with text embedded will make it too small, so the solution I came up with was to resize the blank image without text and then add the text with an appropriate scale to the smaller image in photoshop (this way you can also avoid posting half pages below the double spread), hope this helps :)
