This has been the longest and most stressful day of my entire life and it isn't even over yet.
Arriving at my house I shut my front door and leant against it with a heavy sigh. I can hear some noises coming from the kitchen, so I hang Jace's jacket up and put my bag down on the couch making my way through the front room towards the kitchen.
I peered through the kitchen doorway and saw my dad sitting at the kitchen table holding a cup of coffee, speaking to a man who had his back to me.
"Hey pumpkin," my dad smiled at me before drinking more of his coffee.
Then the mystery man spun around and my face lit up in an instant.
"Uncle Harry," I shrieked before running over and jumping on to him. He chuckled whilst spinning me around.
"What are you doing here, dad didn't mention you were visiting."
He finally put me back down on the floor and ruffled my hair.
"Well, I've come to see my favourite niece obviously" I sent my uncle and dad a weird look.
"I am your only niece, so tell me the real reason" I crossed my arms in front of the two men waiting for an answer.
My uncle works away, doing what I have no idea. He doesn't have any children or a partner, this is why he can be so overprotective of me. My dad is two years younger than him. He's like my second dad. When my brother passed away he came to the funeral but then he disappeared for a while. I never found out why I was just glad to see him again. When he does come to visit us both he end's up staying for a few months. It will be nice to have someone else in the house for a while. So I'm not complaining.
"I'm just having some trouble with work angel, no need to worry though. So I might be staying here a little longer than usual."
He gave me a reassuring smile, so I just shrugged it off and smiled.
"Well it will be nice to have someone else in the house, and to teach my dad that wtf doesn't mean well that's fantastic in text messages"
I opened the fridge door to pull a water bottle out before sitting with my dad at the table.
"In my defence, I am not a teenager, why would I know what words you kids come up with these days" he argued with me.
Taking a gulp of my water, I cock my eyebrow up saying "Well, if you don't know what it means then just don't say it."
"Alright, you two enough bickering" finally my uncle took a seat next to us.
"So what's for tea?" My dad asked.
"Oh yeah uncle Harry, he can't cook either." My dad rolled his eyes.
Harry snorted and gave my dad a knowing look.
"So who's the parent in this house then? Cause it definitely doesn't sound like it's you Tyler," before my dad could reply the doorbell rang.
Who on earth could that be?
My dad stood up and looked over at me, "you expecting anyone Hope?"
Not that I can think of, usually it's Lily but she just walks in like it's her second home. Then it clicked.
West told me Caleb would be picking me up tonight to work on our project together. Even though we wouldn't be doing that.
"Wait I'll answer the door, go and sit back down" I tried catching up to my dad before he made it to the door but I was too slow.
He opened the door to reveal a very happy Caleb. May I mention hot.
Snap out of it.
"And who are you," my dad stood up straight to make himself look bigger, trying to look like the protective dad. I couldn't help but giggle a little.
"I'm Caleb sir, I'm in your daughter's English class."
He took a quick peek at me before continuing,
"We are actually working on a project together, which we decided to work on some of it tonight if that's alright" It was quiet for a minute.
Oh god please just say you're okay with it.
"Well, that's fine with me Caleb, just don't keep her out late" my dad gave me a warning look which I've seen too many times I've actually lost count.
"I won't do sir"
"Please call me Tyler, sir makes me sound old" he gave Caleb a little smile before turning away and walking towards me.
I snorted trying to hold back my laughter.
"That's because you are old." I gave my dad's shoulder a little push which he returned.
"38 is not old young lady, now get going and don't be back too late"
He bent down slightly to give me a kiss on my forehead whilst my uncle walked in with a worried look.
"Alright I will see you later, I love you both" I picked up my jacket and walked towards Caleb ready to leave.
"Love you Pumpkin."
"Love you too Hope."
I smiled at them before closing the door.
"Well I think that went amazingly well, don't you think," he stated whilst we made our way to his car.
I arched my eyebrow.
"It did which I'm really surprised by. He doesn't like boys being near me."
I felt him put his arm around my shoulder turning me slightly when we stood next to his car, "Well that gives me a good advantage then doesn't it" he winks making me grin.
"You wish, little Shaw."
"Oh I do," he opens the car door for me.
"But I'm sure we established that I am not little...."
"La la la I can't hear you," I quickly jumped in the passenger seat and closed the door trying to hide my reddened cheeks. Not long after he sat in the driver's seat and started the engine.
"So how come you're picking me up and not West, although I'm not complaining" I rambled on looking through the radio stations.
"He isn't exactly the most pleasant person to be around."
"Well, I'm definitely not denying that" he chuckled quietly.
"We know Mason or one of his goons will be watching you so we need to keep up with the lie, hence why I am picking you up" I just nodded.
Aha, finally a song I like.
"A panic at the disco fan are we" Caleb glanced my way before speeding up.
"A big fan" I smiled widely towards him. "I could listen to them all the time." Then the car came to a stop.
As I peered through the window I saw a massive house. It was beautiful, you could probably fit my house in it ten times.
I would never have guessed that they would live in a place like this. It definitely put my house to shame.
"You finished gawking?" I snapped out of it and looked over at him.
"Just admiring your house, I love it," He opened the car door stepping out into the cold air.
"Well come on then, if you love the outside so much, you'll love the inside even more." Walking up the path I felt a hand grab hold of my shoulder lightly making me twist round to see is chocolate eyes looking into mine.
"Just to warn you, quite a few people live here as it's the gangs home" My eyes went wide.
"Don't worry though not all of them live here, just the inner circle" He glanced at the door and then back at me.
"Most of them are nice apart from one but don't worry about her" He holds both of my hands and whispers
"Nobody likes her, and I'll protect you" I couldn't help but give him a genuine smile as he squeezed my hands a little which compared to mine are massive.
He let go of one hand and opened the door pulling me inside. He was right, it was even more beautiful on the inside, greeted by a large marble staircase and a shiny marble floor. This place was spotless, which came to me as a surprise.
"Freckles" Callum came over to me keeping his eyes on Caleb, opening his arms up and walked towards his large figure wrapping my short arms around his waist whilst he engulfed me in his muscular arms.
"It's about time you came, West has been getting on my fucking nerves" I could feel him laughing quietly as his chest vibrated against my cheeks.
"Well who is this beautiful lady?" a deep voice came from behind him which made me freeze a little, Callum also went a bit tense at the sound.
He kept one arm around me when stepping back keeping me close to his side.
"Perry, don't even think about it, she isn't one of your whores. If you need someone to satisfy your needs go and find Kelly" he spat harshly, but all Perry did was give him a smug smirk before looking back at me.
"Don't get too touchy Cal, we are all friends here. So beautiful what's your name?"
I stepped to the side and held Callum's hand to keep him calm which worked.
"It's Hope, nice to meet you" he took a few steps forward until we were only a few millimetres apart. Looking me up and down slowly he picked up my hand and placed a kiss on it, a bit too long for my liking.
"Alright we gotta go, Caleb come with us and Perry go and do your damn job" he growled leading me through one of the doors to a dining room.
There was Jace and West sat at the table having a heated discussion. As we approached them they both looked up and coughed.
"Well it's about time you came, I almost thought you backed out"
"Now why would I do that Shaw, I was just enjoying my time with little Shaw before having to spend the rest of my afternoon with you" Smugly smiling at him he just glared at me making me feel proud that I just pissed him off again.
Caleb clapped making me jump. "Not that I'm enjoying this" Pointing his finger between us both "Don't you have something to discuss?"
I was sat in between Caleb and Jace, West sat in front of me with Callum next to him.
Jace cleared his throat "We have a lot to talk about tonight, so Hope, you might need to make up a lie about staying over at Lily's house cause it's gonna take a while."
"That's fine, I'll give my dad a quick message" I pulled out my phone sending him a text.
Staying at Lil's tonight, don't worry Caleb is dropping me off. I will see you and Uncle Harry tomorrow. Love you x
Okay pumpkin, see you tomorrow. love u more x
"Done," I placed my phone on the table and looked around at all the boys.
"Well let's get started shall we," West lent on his arms which were placed on the table and looked into my eyes.
"We are the black spades, and this is how we will take down Mason's gang once and for all."
