Hunter’s eyes felt sewn shut. No matter how hard he tried to open them, he failed to lift them up. He tried to move his arm but it felt incredibly heavy.
“What the…” he whispered in his mind. “Zekaj?”
There was no response.
Hunter started to get worried, where was Zekaj, and why was he so weak? And what was his back against and why was something wrapped around his waist?
His eyes started to fight against the heaviness and he could just make out the outline of his room. His vision continued to blur out until the room was pretty clear. The early morning sun shined all over the room, the shades on his windows keeping most of the light out.
He looked down and saw gray arms wrapped around his waist. They obviously belonged to Zekaj.
“Zekaj?” Hunter said, his mouth completely dry.
Suddenly, something smacked into the back of his head, and a curse word was said.
“Hunter, are you alright?” Zekaj said, “I didn’t mean to hit you. Haha.” He laughed, awkwardly. Zekaj had jumped the moment he heard his name, smacking his head into the back of Hunter’s head.
“Just tired.” He answered honestly, holding onto Zekaj’s arms. “Uh, what happened?” He couldn’t remember ever coming home, only the beating he took in the hallway.
Zekaj didn’t reply, causing Hunter to turn around and back up on the bed. He was met with a very guilty looking Zekaj.
“Zekaj…” Hunter whispered.
“It was nothing bad! I swear!.” Zekaj defended himself. “I was pissed! I freaked out and got enraged and-”
“Did you kill them?” Hunter exclaimed.
“No! Gods no! You’d never forgive me if I did that. I only scared the shit out of them.” He paused. “A lot.”
“Oh, that’s not… as bad.” Hunter whispered, holding his head. It still hurt a bit.
“There’s more.” Zekaj whispered. He didn’t want to tell Hunter about him taking control of his body.
“What?” Hunter asked.
“Itookcontrolofyourbody.” Zekaj quickly said.
“Zekaj.” Hunter heard none of that.
“I took control of your body! You were knocked out but I wasn’t and I don’t know how but suddenly I was in control.” Zekaj did not want this to ruin their friendship. If Hunter decided their contract was up he would be whisked away back to hell, and that was the last thing he wanted.
Hunter didn’t know how to respond to that. On one hand, he was pissed Zekaj took control of him. On the other hand, he was alright with it since he was just defending them. But he couldn’t help but think that Zekaj might have left some details out. He trusted Zekaj with his life, but he couldn’t help but wonder.
“Oh.” Was all Hunter managed to say.
“Please don’t hate me.” Zekaj said, looking down and grabbing Hunter’s hands. He rubbed his thumb along the top of them. “I don’t want to go back, I can’t go back Hunter.”
The only reason Zekaj didn’t want to go back was Hunter.
Hunter thought Zekaj might start to cry. Hunter didn’t even know if Demons could cry. Zekaj wouldn’t look him in the eye and focused on their hands.
Looking into the bit of Zekaj’s eyes he could see, even though all they were glowing pale gold, he could tell he was ashamed of what happened. He knew Zekaj didn’t do it on purpose and was only looking out for them.
Hunter grabbed Zekaj’s hands and began to say. “It’s fine Zekaj. You did it for a good reason, and as long as no one got hurt it’s fine.”
Zekaj stared into Hunter’s eyes and Hunter did the same with Zekaj’s pale gold eyes. A shy smile appeared on his face as he suddenly pulled Hunter into a tight embrace.
“I promise to never do it again.” Zekaj hugged him even harder.
“Zekaj you’re crushing me.” Hunter laughed. Zekaj let go quickly and mumbled a sorry. “And, I guess I don’t mind you taking control in situations like that. It was best for the both of us. And to be honest, they had it coming.”
“I did say I would beat his ass one day.” Zekaj reminded him. “I just hope they’re not traumatized.” He said nonchalantly, leaning back against the wall.
“It was that bad?”
“I can be scary when I want to be.” Zekaj stated, staring into Hunter’s eyes. This was very true.
“I would’ve never guessed You’re very cuddly.” Hunter snickered.
Zekaj was obviously offended by this.
“Demon’s all over hell were terrified of me! No one even looked in my eyes! My castle was the scariest around!” Zekaj defended himself.
“You own a castle?”
“Well it’s the family one, it’s more my parents. My brother or I would take over it whenever my parents decided to retire, if they ever decided to. They might have retired already to be honest. Guess that’d make my brother the lord of it.” Zekaj surprisingly didn’t look mad about this.
“And- And you’re okay with this?” Hunter was shocked he seemed alright about this. Zekaj was extremely cocky and he felt Zekaj would’ve done anything to become the lord of it.
And that was true, before he met Hunter, all he wanted was to become the lord of their home, and to take control. He had been waiting his whole life for the moment, but suddenly it wasn’t so ideal anymore. There was something more important to him.
“Yeah, surprisingly, I feel bad for my brother.”
“What do you mean?” Hunter asked.
“My brother, for all the years he’s been alive, has never felt whole. I guess.” Zekaj answered. “He always talked about how a part of him felt missing. He never knew how to explain it.”
"Was it his soulmate he was missing?" Hunter asked.
"No, well, at least he doesn't think so. Just something is missing with Zekai and it upsets him.” Zekaj finished.
“So Zekai is your brother? What’s he like?”
“A lot like me. Hot, Strong,”
“Arrogant?” Hunter added. Zekaj looked at him and squinted his eyes. At this moment, Hunter was very intimidated by Zekaj’s glowing eyes.
“Mean.” He said through gritted teeth, grabbing Hunter’s arms. Hunter tried to escape from his grasp but was only pulled closer as he started getting tickled.
“Stop! Stop Zekaj!” Hunter laughed. Zekaj stared at the mage who was struggling to get out of his tickle attack.
Thank god he forgave me. Zekaj thought. Zekaj couldn’t bear the idea that Hunter could be mad at him.
“You’re really not mad?” Zekaj asked.
“I am now that you tickled me to death.” Hunter murmured. Zekaj just stared at him waiting for an actual answer. “No Zekaj, I’m really not. Your intentions were good.” Hunter smiled reassuringly, causing Zekaj to smile back.
Hunter thought about all that happened when he realized AJ and the others would remember the event that had transpired in the school. They would remember everything. A demon attacked them in a school, and he knew they could connect the dots and assume Hunter had something to do with it.
“Zekaj, they're going to figure us out and they’ll-” Zekaj cut him off.
“Trust me Hunter, they won’t figure anything out. They have no evidence beside their memories.” Zekaj smiled. “You think this is my first rodeo?”
Hunter knew it wasn’t, but he still had some questions. Wouldn’t the cameras have picked everything up? How did no one hear what was happening in the hallway? And AJ’s father would believe anything he said, since they had 2 betas to back up what he said.
“But what about AJ’s father?” Hunter asked.
“What about him?”
“He’s the alpha of the Salem pack. He’ll believe his son and his betas. What are we going to do about that?” Hunter had no idea, he was terrified of the idea of being in the same room as the alpha.
Hunter watched as Zekaj just stared at him, his face saying, are you serious?
“I am not scared of a few wolves, Hunter. Their soon-to-be alpha and betas couldn’t even touch me. And like I said.” He grabbed his hands. “I have everything under control.” He smiled at Hunter. “We’re going to be fine.”
And Hunter believed him. How could he not? He knew Zekaj would never lie to him.
Hunter sat next to Zekaj on the bed and leaned back into the wall, slowly he lowered his head onto his shoulder. His eyes scanned the room and landed on his alarm clock. It was almost 9am, his parents should be getting up anytime soon.
Suddenly, Zekaj’s head perked up and his face turned to the door in a sudden movement.
“Get in bed, now.” Zekaj demanded, as his body turned to shadow and he was absorbed into Hunter.
Hunter quickly slid into bed and acted his best to make it look like he had been sleeping.
The door to his room burst open and his father spoke.
“Hunter?” His father spoke into the room.
Hunter did the best fake waking up he could do and looked at his dad.
“Huh?” He said, glancing at his father in the doorway to his room.
“Tell me why the Alpha of the Salem pack is here to speak with you.”
Uh oh! The Alpha is here to speak with Hunter.
What does the Alpha want? Is he going to try and prosecute Hunter? Do they know about Zekaj now? What's going to happen?
