Ryan and Eric stood in front of the office's door as they knocked on it.
Thuck Thuck...
Knocking on the door, a voice resounded from behind it, "Hm?"
"It's us, you called?" Ryan said.
"Ah, come on in."
...
Zephyr's Headquarters, Zeke's Office—1:24 P.M.
The two opened the door to the office as they headed in. As they walked in, they were greeted by the sight of Zeke who was sitting over by his desk.
"Ah, Looks like you're finally here, good." Zeke smiled as he welcomed the two.
"So what will the mission be this time? A combat one? Please tell me it's another combat one?" Eric impatiently asked as he showed a hint of excitement within his eyes.
"...Eric, not every mission is about fighting you know?" Ryan sighed helplessly, "And isn't the last few missions especially last night's infiltration mission more than enough for you? With the fact you made our lives harder by jumping headfirst into combat in all of them..."
"Bah, I'd rather fight than sit around and do nothing at least we got the job done."
"By turning the entire warehouse upside down..."
There are multiple missions that Zephyr takes up. From a range of mild missions like helping out a citizen in need to high-end ones like infiltration or assassination. Each mission is categorized into a category, from Infiltration, protection, assassination, patrol, joint operations and the like.
Depending on the mission, some mercenaries won't be suited for the task, thus they may request for help from other agencies to aid them.
"Impatient huh? Well, I won't bore you any longer and I shall get to the details." Zeke replied, "The mission that you'll be going on for today will just a general patrol."
"What?" Eric clicked his tongue, "Just a general patrol mission? Not a combat mission?"
"You heard correctly."
"Why am I going on such a mission if it's just a general patrol?" Eric creased his brow, "Can't you bring Sarah or Velvet along instead? I could be using that time to train!"
"You... What's up with training and training all the time?" Ryan glared at Eric, "We've been going for consecutive combat missions for who knows how long now and it'll be nice if we could just take a break for this one."
"Bah, it's better to get stronger to take down all the enemies in front of you then be stagnant."
"Haha," Zeke chuckled, "Just as Ryan said, I've been sending you on consecutive combat missions for some time now, thus this patrol mission would give you a breather. Though, that doesn't mean you can slack off."
"Ugh..." Eric frowned, "So, is this just patrolling?"
"Well to be exact, I would like you two to be on a watch out for the activity within the area of sector 8, specifically Wyvern Street."
"Wyvern Street?" Ryan titled his head, "Isn't that the district where there is a lot of gang activity there?"
"Right. That specific area has been under the control of the leaders of multiple gangs for quite some time now. Due to their control, the area has been in quite a predicament of danger, so I'd like for you to patrol the outer areas of it since recently, there has been a huge spike in fights among gang members at the border of the district which puts a lot of the citizens in danger."
"Oho? So there will be combat then?" The frowning Eric smirked upon hearing the word 'fight'.
"Ahem... So our job would be to patrol the outer streets of Wyvern and stop fights if it endangers the citizens?" Ryan opened his mouth as he ignored Eric's renewed interest in the discussion.
"You got it. Though, it'll be highly unlikely that you will get into a fight since the citizens stray away from the outer streets. But, I'm sending you to ensure their safety."
"Right. And what's the stance from authorities in this situation?" Ryan asked.
"The same excuse, 'This is a fight to determine one's standings in the hierarchy among members, thus we will not interrupt the fights that occur there'."
"Ugh, that same old shitty excuse? Tch, the authorities are freaking useless!" Eric clicked his tongue.
"Sigh, gang members can freely do whatever they want because they are backed up by the laws of the city..." Ryan sighed helplessly, "I wonder whether or not there has ever been a case of 'public nuisance'."
"Donno, probably never." Eric shrugged, "Anyways, is that all?"
"Yes, that is all. You may take leave and head towards Sector 8 now." Zeke nodded his head.
After receiving the notice to leave, Ryan bowed his head as he and Eric headed out of the office. Just before Eric left, Zeke opened his mouth.
"Oh and Eric? I heard reports from Luke that you haven't been listening to orders from Sarah and Ryan again? I hope you don't do unnecessary things that'll put them in danger again."
"Bah." Eric clicked his tongue as he closed the office's door.
"Sigh, this kid..." Zeke shook his head as he got back to work.
...
Zephyr's Headquarters—1:42 P.M.
As Eric left the office, Ryan who was at the front of the hallway laughed, "Did Zeke gave you a scolding before you left?"
"Ugh, don't talk about it. Let's just go and prepare our weapons and head out already." Eric scoffed as he walked passed Eric.
"Ah right! Speaking of weapon... My weapon is currently with Emily for a check-up, I don't think it's done yet..."
"Huh? You sent your weapon for a check-up? Was it that badly damage from last night's mission?"
"Well, I did go through a series of consecutive combat from the missions we went on recently." Ryan sighed, "So my weapon was bound to be worn out."
"So you're basically saying, you can't use your weapon for the time being?"
"Basically. Well, unless Emily has finished up maintenance on my weapon already, I will have to rely on my power for now."
"Eh, you can just create a weapon from your power right? So that won't be a problem."
"I guess. Though, I prefer that I had my weapon for more firepower..." Ryan lamented, "Let me check on Emily for a bit to see if she's done or not."
"Go go," Eric yawned, "I'll be waiting for you at the lobby." He said as he walked ahead, quickly heading into the elevator.
