One Minute before the villagers assaulted the goblins on the right side. Quant silently sat on the left side awaiting the arrival of the goblins. His task is to defeat fifteen goblins all on his own. Currently, he only possessed the fire attribute.
The reason he had to fight these many goblins himself is to gain experience and level up. Had he been in a group, he would level up slowly compared to being alone.
He had no skills nor expertise that can assist him in battle. He could only rely on creativity to assist him. Where he sat was a large wooden shed of tools roughly the same size as an outside toilet.
He went inside looking for weapons to use only to find a shed full of farming tools. The tools were held up on each side of the shed by racks.
He set his eyes on a machete, the ease of use let him believe it was the most efficient weapon to a newbie. He grabbed it from the rack, swinging it a few times to get used to the feeling. Leaving the shed he noticed a can of oil beside bottles of a clear liquid.
His mind led him to think of a barbaric tactic to annihilate the goblins. The plan would only work if the clear liquid was what he thought.
“System, scan the liquid.”
[Scanning…..]
[Scanning Complete: Isopropyl alcohol]
“I see, rubbing alcohol. It’s probably for disinfecting food processing plants and areas where the animals reside.”
Quant picked up the oil, the machete, and three bottles of the rubbing alcohol. He brought them outside where the end of the fire was on the left side. A hoard of goblins were coming his way. He quickly mixed the rubbing alcohol with the oil.
He ripped pieces of his clothes making sure they are in long strips plunging it into the bottles. Making sure that one end is sticking out. He took a big step back while lifting one of the bottles.
“「Cast Fire 」 “
He lit the end that was left sticking out. The goblins ran faster after seeing him, eagerly ready to kill their first prey. They growled louder as the saw him lifting the bottle not sure why he did so.
Quant waited until they got closer. When they got close to the end of the flame wall. He threw the bottle towards the goblins at the front. The bottle broke letting the liquids out and in contact with the fire. This caused an explosion of fire to burst out. The reaction was small but enough to burn the goblins in the front.
Three goblins were on fire causing them immense pain. They suddenly dropped on the ground rolling around to diminish the flame. Although the idea didn’t seem foolish it was exactly what Quant wanted.
Their sudden decision to fall caused the goblins at the back to trip over them, which led them to also be on fire. Five goblins were on fire, Three roled on the ground while the two ran all over the place.
The goblins puzzled by the outburst of flames moreover with the behavior of their companions. Before they could grasp the situation another bottle was thrown at the center. The same reaction occurred as before which burnt three more goblins.
The goblins were disorganized, not sure what was going on. Quant knew that the remaining goblins might run away after seeing that they cannot win. He dashed to where towards the goblins machete in hand.
While running he threw the last bottle to where the last goblin was. This was spotted by the goblins which led them to believe that he was the one causing the raining flames. The goblins separated to make sure that they didn’t get burned.
The bottle hit the ground only burning one goblin. Since the goblins were sparsely separated the effect could not reach them. Quant smiled from the rush of battle more so because his plan worked.
The fire from the last attack connected with the wall of flame. The excess fire caused it to grow, which made the wall of flame expand to a greater length than before.
Quant began his assault on the goblins by cutting down the goblins closest to him. He cut down the ones dazed from the flame. He needed to use the time that the goblins were confused to his advantage.
Swiftly he cut the head of three goblins before the others realized what was going on. The goblins launched their attack on him since they vastly outnumbered him. Anyone in this situation would be at a disadvantage but not Quant.
Normally the goblins would have an advantage with their numbers but due to there being a large distance between goblin to goblin that advantage was for not. Quant could easily kill one goblin at a time before they could gather together.
So he did, slashing of one goblin at a time. Making sure he doubled back to kill the ones burnt from the fire. He needed to make sure no one can attack him from the back.
Nine goblins were slaughtered leaving only six remaining. They understood they would not stand a chance against him thus deciding to run away. They turned back running for their lives as Quant gave chase.
The goblins ran in terror not realizing they were trapped. The goblins looked forward only to then find out that they were doomed. The last bottle caused the wall to enlarge horizontally blocking out their only path of escape.
Quant once again used their moment of despair to his advantage, attacking the nearest goblins with a combination of his machete and his cast fire spell.
Twelve goblins were dead in total, the blood-painted Quant looked at the remaining goblins. His face smug with the biggest grin on his face. His heart raced as he felt elated from being in battle.
The goblins had surrendered, kneeling in hopes that they would be released. Quant understood the message they were trying to send. He put his hand to his side while holding the blade. Carefully he walked to where they were.
He stood inches away from the goblins, staring at them with an intense gaze that hinted at their demise. The goblins shriveled up from the frightening stare beginning to cry out while they caress each other in their last moments.
Quant with no empathy in his heart slaughtered the beasts in his sights leaving not an inch of life in their bodies. He found it idiotic to show mercy to creatures who attacked first. Had they wished to live they could have chosen to remain in the forest he thought.
The battle of the left side had ended with Quant as the victor. The bodies of the goblin’s had been scattered all over the place. Blood dripped from their bodies covering the ground in pools of blood.
[Mission Complete]
[Reward: 500 EXP]
[Host has leveled up]
[Host Level: 10]
Quant had completed the mission he had been given by the system, which led him to believe that the villagers had completed their assault as well.
“System bring up my status.”
[Host Level: 10]
[Status: Fatigued]
[HP: 10 MP: 1000]
[Strength: 10 Luck: 10]
[Agility: 10 Intelligence : 300]
[Vitality: 10 Wisdom : 100]
[Skills: Cast Fire]
[Elemental Affinity: Fire]
[Available skill points: 30]
These statistics didn’t make sense to Quant.
“System how comes the reward is so large for mere goblins. Defeating 15 goblins can’t be enough for me to gain 9 levels.”
[Host’s assumption is correct]
[Completing the mission required set conditions to be met]
[Condition 1: All goblins are exterminated]
[Condition 2: Villagers remain unharmed]
[Condition 3:The village is undamaged]
[All conditions were met]
“I see, so the mission was to protect the village. Well considering the situation they were in it makes sense. If I had known that I wouldn’t have done this by myself, no point in stressing now. Also, what are these skill points I have here?”
[Skill points are the secondary way of increasing statistics like strength, agility, etc, the primary method being through training]
“I’m guessing I can use this to increase my weak stats. Hmm for now I’ll save them”
His trail of thought was interrupted by huffing and puffing coming from his right side. A large group of people were running towards Quant as he laid on the ground.
“Mr. Quant, Are you okay!”
Jenna had been the first to arrive, she knelt to beside Quant in anguish. She assumed he was injured by the goblins because of the amount of blood that covered his clothes.
“Yeah, I am fine just a bit tired.”
After close inspection, Quant had no wounds or injuries. Which led to the question of where the blood on his clothes is from.
“Ah, guys, What the hell happened here?”
Farler inquired however his voice was distorted due to the gruesome sight. Bodies of goblins stained the ground; their heads separated from their body, others were nothing but charcoal. Blood oozed out from their bodies decorating the grass red.
“Who did all this?”
Foxor asked as he stood bewildered from the terrifying results of the battle. All the villagers who fought in the battle of the right side as well as the old man and Aiko stood in shock. They could barely hold off goblins who equaled them yet someone defeated them this horrifically.
“Mr. Quant, did you do this all by yourself?”
Everyone who heard that stared at Quant. It’s not possible, a man that weak cannot kill all these goblins in his lonesome. Had it been a skilled warrior or an adventurer then yes but not a man as slender as this one. They thought and thought all not believing what was irrefutable but alas all evidence pointed to one conclusion.
“Yes. I did.”
Those words caused a shiver to run through their spine. Who is this man? What brought him to this village? How does he have the power to defeat beasts who vastly outnumber him? Question after question led them to conclude that this was no ordinary person.
Some feared this man while others only wish not to be his enemy but Foxor was furious. Farler and old man Jack had stern faces, their expressions were hidden. if they had shown the villagers that even they were afraid it would only create more tension.
Quant stood up with the assistance of Jenna. He was unable to walk on his own thus Jenna carried his hand over her shoulder using herself as his pillar of support. Farler went to the other side to do the same.
“Thank you Farlen.”
“No problem, I’m guessing this was all your plan.”
“Your guess is correct. Old man, get us a private room we need to talk. War is approaching”
