Burst Drive is a passion project I started back in my middle school days. In the summer of sixth grade, I had created “Jake Dusk” just a regular OC that's main purpose was supposed to be a fan character for Beyblade. Eventually, I decided he needed his own story and he became the prototype version of Saito.

Originally, it was just going to be a school/romance story about Jake and his crush, the inspiration being my early attempts at romantic crushes in middle school. After my friend had ripped up my comics that were drawn on graphing paper, I restarted and we have the end result being this novel.

During seventh grade and eighth grade, I had an early version of Burst Drive with plenty of grammar mistakes, that I presented as my final English project. I continued writing Burst Drive until about 10th grade, where I would lose the book I had written most of the plot into.

After some time, I had mostly written each chapter in various ways in my free time and I didn’t make much progress as I was attending to my studies and other activities aside from the story. As Kingdom Hearts 3 was on its way to being released, I had started writing again as the times were concerning and I vowed that I would end Burst Drive before 2020 came.

I failed at that, but this year I figured I finished.

Burst Drive is a big part of my life as this journey started nearly 8-9 years ago.

Many of the characters represent several aspects of my early childhood and life experiences.

Saito started off as the opposite of me, someone more outspoken and confident in their abilities. As time went on, I became him... In a sense.

Akihiro shares the worries of loving and providing for someone that might die at any moment.

In the upcoming chapters, you’ll see many difficult situations each character has faced in their past or in their present.
