Alex walks into the cafeteria and gets his food and sits at the table with his friends. Courtney is sitting on the other side of the cafeteria, glancing at Alex in the corner of her eye. Courtney’s best friend notices this. “Courtney, what are you looking at?” Kate asked. Courtney's eyes jut down at her book. “Nothing,” Courtney said quickly. “I think you were looking at Alex,” Kate said. “No, I wasn’t,” Courtney said. “I think you have a crush on him,” Kate said. “I do not,” Courtney said. “Yeah, whatever,” Kate said. Courtney gets up and gets her bag. “Where do you think you are going?” Kate asked. “I’m leaving,” Courtney said. “And why?” Kate asked. “I don’t want to sit here anymore,” Courtney said. “No, you just don’t want me teasing you about liking Alex,” Kate said. Courtney walks to her locker and Kate follows her. When she caught up to Courtney, she is putting books in her locker. “Courtney, why did you leave?” Kate asked. “I needed to put some books in my locker,” Courtney said. “No, you didn’t want me to continue saying that you like Alex,” Kate said. “Yeah, that’s it, but he will never fall for a girl like me, so stop reminding me of it!” Courtney yelled. Kate storms off. Courtney shook her head and walked away. She was angry that Kate, her best friend, would tease her but is also sad. She wipes the tear from her face. Courtney walks into the restroom and in one of the stall locking it behind her. She takes her glasses off and sits on the toilet and she let the tears fall.
