“Wait!” A voice says. I turn around and see the person-like creature. I don’t know what to do so I just look at it.

“What are you?” I say without realizing it. The creature looks hurt. I see a fish tail come out of the water.

“I’m a mermaid,” It says. A mermaid? Mermaids are supposedly a myth and yet here I am looking at one. I turn in the water and start swimming towards the shore. I don’t even look back. I don’t know why but I feel the need to get away. Before I know it, I’m back on land. I run home as fast as I can. I know mermaids can’t walk on land because they’re aquatic creatures but I still feel the need to run. I don’t know why I suddenly wanted to get away. It was as if I was scared of it! I quickly change out of my wet clothes and take a shower. I text Layla and ask her if I can go over to her house. She responds in a couple of seconds by saying yes. I want to tell her about the mermaid. I know she’ll believe me because she’s my best friend. She would never doubt me. So why do I feel so nervous?
