Prince Froglip had been minding his business, devouring the strange pink creatures that the sun servants had been bringing when an even stranger sun-creature approached him.
From the look of their outfit, Froglip had discerned that it was female, given that the sun women enjoyed loose fabric that sparkled and gave the prince an enormous head ache.
She said something, laughed and then grabbed onto his arm and he froze. Now were this a courting situation, they would engage in a fierce battle until the woman accepted him or she threw him off the mountain. However, the sun woman continued to talk, squeeze his arm and smile.
"I'm Ophelia," the woman said, batting her eyes, "but I would really rather o-feel-you."
Something about the way she laughed made the prince jolt. Was– was this sun woman attracted to him?
"I jest, I do," yet another breathy laugh escaped the Ophelia's ruby lips and Froglip stared at them in bemusement.
Her soft sun-skin brushed up against his arm and he tensed again as goose flesh rippled on his shoulder. "I'm sure you have such stories about all those pesky miners."
At the mention of miners, Froglip looked up, his eyes immediately going to Curdie and the Princess Irenie. They were both watching.
Oh, it really was all clear to him now. This new sun woman, Ophelia, had to be quite desirable and now that she was paying attention to the Goblin Prince, Princess Irenie had taken notice too.
The prince forced down the food he had stuffed into his mouth and a smile rolled over his features. "They are peth'ky, aren't they," Froglip said, mimicking the woman's heavy, almost seductive tone.
The smile on her face momentarily faltered but the prince didn't take notice of it.
The other goblins, who had also stopped stuffing their faces, were all now gaping at the blindingly shiny sun-woman who clutched to Froglip's arm.
"And what a strong and magnificent army you have, such handsome looking goblins." Ophelia gushed, letting go of the prince's arm as his minions continued to gawk at the woman, stony purple blushes on their faces as they whispered happily amongst themselves.
Froglip however, didn't really like the attention going to anyone else but him. He watched as Princess Irenie and Curdie began to approach them and he quickly placed himself in front of Ophelia again as the woman took a little jump back.
"Don't bother with tho'the underlings. What was it you th'aid about how clever I am?"
From the corner, Froglip eyed the princess' reaction and began charming the woman with his best.
"Oh- Prince Froglip, you are too droll," she said while also eyeing Curdie as she playfully clawed at Prince Froglip's arm with her gloved hand and laughed a little louder. "Oh, you are too delightful, Prince Froglip. If only our men were more like you" she said pointedly and then cocked her head at the princess. "Right, Irenie?"
Froglip blushed a dark purple and his grin broadened when the princess nodded her head.
"You are so right, Ophelia," Irenie smiled humorously with her eyes closed.
The miner boy, however, seemed less than impressed, probably due to how envious he was of the prince with both sun women now paying him compliments.
"Nice to see you getting along with the goblins, Ophelia. You must have so much in common," Curdie said darkly.
"Well, the Prince at least has good taste, Curdie." She smiled, but Froglip could hear her teeth grind against one another.
The prince of the goblins didn't like that. He didn't like it in general when the minor boy talked, but Froglip did not like his sneaky undertones.
However, the prince quickly came up with an idea to impress the sun people, and snapped his fingers at an underling. Their one-toe-nailed feet slapped on the marble as they presented Froglip with the goblin trinket.
Froglip removed the item from the goblin's hands and presented the rope collar to Ophelia.
"My god, those are the biggest diamonds I have ever seen in my life," Ophelia gasped. "This– this must have cost a fortune–"
"Not at all. Con'thider it a gift from the prince of the goblins!" He shouted a little loudly, and his minions cheered in the background as the other sun people began to squeeze together, admiring the jewellery.
"Oh, oh dear," Ophelia said, nearly rocking back on her feet as Froglip placed the collar around her neck. "Oh god, oh god, it's beautiful."
The Goblin Prince released the clasp and the room buzzed with excitement as the goblins stood proudly behind their leader.
Prince Froglip smiled his smug grin and puffed out his muscular chest as he watched the miner boy writhe with anger.
"Come on. They're goblins!" Curdie erupted as he threw out both arms in front of him, but Irenie led the fuming miner away with a sorry smile.
Froglip's grin turned into a small frown to see the princess leave.
"Now for my gift," Ophelia gasped with a laugh, "and I think I may just have the solution for this party. Winterswell!"
A servant on the outside of the crew popped up as the Lady Ophelia screamed for him and hurried through the crowd for his mistress.
"Winterswell, darling," Ophelia said as the stiff man landed with hop in front of her, "I want all the crates of Chavallier brought out. All of them! We shall make this a celebration not to be forgotten in honour of the goblin kingdom and their wonderful gifts."
A different servant might have asked his Lady if that was wise for all four crates of the most expensive and concentrated champagne in all the kingdoms to be opened. However, if Lady Ophelia Estrild wanted something, often times she got it.
A cheer went up from the great hall as servants brought out enormous quantities of the biggest green bottles most of them had ever seen.
The corks flew out of the necks of the champagne bottles with loud cracks that startled all the goblins. The humans laughed as fizzy pink foam streamed out, some of it splashing on the stone as the people clamoured to refill their glasses.
Ophelia, who had one arm still wrapped around the goblin prince, took her own glass and drained the contents right away.
A blush flushed across her face and she smiled widely as she was topped off by another servant in the crowd.
"Here, drink this, goblin." Ophelia smiled widely as she handed Froglip his own glass. Ophelia laughed as the rest of the attendees did too.
Froglip had never seen such a strange thing but he quickly drank the contents all in one gulped down what felt like liquid fire.
"What a th'range drink," the goblin said. He felt a wave roll over him that loosened every strained muscle in his body. "It'th fantath'tic!" the prince slurred more than usual and a wickedly twisted smile filled his lips as he stared into the empty glass.
It felt like his whole body was pleasantly on fire.
Ophelia grabbed Froglip by the hand and began tugging him toward the others with an excited smile and he found himself following after. Froglip was still lucid enough to keep them both steady but in his increasingly disjointed thoughts he did wonder where the princess had gone.
