I collapsed on the couch.
"Come on. It can't be that bad."
"James, I swear if there's some stupid lingerie on that bed, we're getting divorced." I sat up with a start. "We don't have any of our stuff. Fuck. There probably is lingerie in there!" I started sobbing.
James crossed his arms. "Can you stop being dramatic? I'm sure Eleanor would've thought of that."
I sat up again and slouched over with my head cocked. I stared at him as I tried to gather thoughts in my sleep-deprived brain. Finally, I groaned and said, "I need to shower anyways."
James helped me up, and we peeked into the bedroom. Sure enough, there was a large box on the bed tied up with a bright red bow. I made a face.
"Do you think she's still awake? I can call her to see where she put our stuff."
I kicked up some petals as I searched the room for a suitcase or duffel bag.
"She's not picking up. Did you find anything?"
I shook my head defeatedly. "Only these bathrobes." I collapsed face-first onto the bed, hugging the robes under me. "Mm these petals smell good."
James scratched his head. "Well I texted her, but I doubt we'd get a reply tonight. Let's check the box."
I sat up to help him untie Pandora's Box and pull out all the red tissue paper. Laying on top of a final layer of rose petals was a matching white lace set including a gorgeous pushup bra, crotchless panties, and a pair of silk boxers.
I flicked the boxers at him in disgust. "You can have the bathroom first."
"Are you sure?"
"I'd like to...postpone having to wear this for as long as I can thanks."
James shrugged, cringing. "Suit yourself."
When the bathroom door shut, I fell back onto the bed and screamed into the bed. It still smelled really good.
