Velinty was lost in her memories, of the days before she became an outcast. She was born in the Factory location, where they produce the goods for the Protector location. Her life was pretty good, loving parents, good schooling, and friends to play with all day. But Velinty had always felt wrong, like when people called her a boy, or said he/him. She heard whisperings from people about transgender people, who were born with the wrong parts. She knew that fit her problem, but kept it a secret, after all when those people talked about being transgender, it was negative. When she was twelve, she expressed an interest in women’s fashion, she helped her little sisters with their clothes. Their mother sat Velinty down and had a conversation about how it was okay to do that, but not to let anyone else know. That was when Velinty was 12. The week after that conversation, she came out to her parents. While they were supportive of her choosing clothes, they rejected her for who she was. They tried to get her to pretend to be a boy, but coming out had been a huge step to accepting herself. She refused to go back into the closet.
When it got out, Velinty heard slurs and was beaten on a constant basis. Her family suffered a lot of ridicule from their society. They were upset, in their eyes everything was Velinty’s fault, that her abnormal state was the cause of all their problems. They took her to a woman and told her the Void location was the only place they would accept her. Velinty was sad, but determined to make the best of her situation. That was when the woman brought her to this place, where there were half naked women surrounding her, and men who were stuffing their junk back in their pants. The woman took Velinty to a back room, with a lot of other people, ranging from 4 to about 30. They were all beat to hell and looked like they were about to shit themselves when that door opened. Velinty was thrown in and the door was bolted closed.
Velinty noticed a girl her age sitting in a corner, with a birthmark the size of her hand stretching across her eye. Velinty went and sat next to her and whispered, “What is happening? Is this where we are staying now?” The girl just shook her head and started to cry. Velinty looked down and noticed the girl had been cradling her arm, it looked broken, but also healed. It looked like when it was broken, it wasn't cared for so it healed at a permanent angle. Looking around, Velinty noticed many people in a similar state. All were hurt and none were cared for. In a panic, Velinty yelled, “What the hell is going on here? Why are you all so hurt?” The majority cringed when Velinty yelled and even some started crying.
“You are now an outcast.” A young woman with a cleft lip answered, she had a look in her eye that spoke of pain and resignation. “The women out there, they see to the sexual needs of the men, and when they’re done, the men see to their aggressive needs in here. It's the head’s way of protecting her girls, the men abuse us instead of abusing the goods. Welcome to your new life.” Velinty sat, in shock, realizing her parents didn't send her here to be accepted at all. They sent her here to be the punching bag of the assholes of society. She started crying.
Velinty woke with a start, trying to push her memories away. She didn't need to remember that part of her life, it was the past. Dante had snuck into that god awful place and had taken her away, became her best friend. She never had to think of the beatings she took or the names she was called again. Her best friend had saved her and that's all she is willing to remember of that place.
