A week went by the entire time Devin going out of his way to avoid Hunter and any remote feelings about their two encounters. Hunter popping in and out of the shop with his free time really having nothing to do till his mates came in from the UK for the demo days.
Unlike himself one guy was married and the other two had full time girlfriends all of which were kept rather busy in their free time so once the demo was done and recorded they planned on flying back home soon after till things were set in stone.
They were waiting until then to talk about potentially moving to the US for good. He knew it was a lot to ask of someone to move countries but much like him making it big was their dream too. So in his eyes it was worth it, really worth it.
What really annoyed Devin was everyday he kept thinking about the kiss and what was said to him. It was slowly eating away at his soul, nothing has ever bothered him like this before. Filling himself with anxiety, a constant tightness in his chest made it so he felt that he couldn't breath. Though he knew he was fine and it would eventually pass over. Smith pulled him to the side at one point asking if everything was cool with him, worried about him.
Devin lied telling him he was fine just personal shit going on. Smith didn't dig too far into his personal life but made sure that if he was needed for anything he was there for him. Devin loved that about Smith the most, knowing that he truly cared for him but didn't push like most people did he waited for you to come around to him.
Outside pulling a long drag on his cigarette Devin heard Hunter pull up his Charger, leaning his head against the wall watching the smoke leave his lips. It wasn't till he heard Sunshine's voice that his full attention got pulled in that direction over hearing the two of them talking.
From where he was standing he couldn't make out every word but he got enough to hear Hunter ask Sunshine out, instantly he felt his face get real hot knowing it bound to look red too. Feeling hurt and anger fill him up, two feelings he shouldn't be feeling at all.
Having an attraction to the same sex was a flat no and it was just one drunken kiss it wasn't like he had any claim over Hunter and what he did. Nor could he ever own up to it if he did choose to acknowledge the kiss as something more than a drunken mistake.
Sunshine giggling her bubbly laugh probably hugging and kissing him on the cheek before she headed back inside. Devin pulled the last drag before he put the bud out and moved around to the front of the building exhaling.
"Haven't seen you all week."
"I know." Devin said coldly, looking in his direction.
"Well I got to be going, just came by to ask Sunshine something." Smiled Hunter pulling his keys out of his pocket.
"I heard. Gotta get ready for your date."
His tone was hurt but was trying to show that he didn't care when he really did. Hunter shook his head, not sure what was wrong with him. Hunter stepped back up on the sidewalk, grabbing Devin by the arm causing him to turn around and face him.
"Am I sensing jealousy right now?" Asked Hunter, eyes catching his gaze, a little smirk pulling at his lips.
Devin pulled his arm away from him but got caught up in his steel grey eyes, "You're not sensing anything."
He lied.
Hunter laughed, "You can lie if you want, but don't get all upset about something you don't know anything about."
Hunter stepped back, giving him space again, he really wasn't one to spread people's personal business, "Sunshine's boyfriend just broke up with her so I offered to take her out for the night to have some fun as a friend if you must know."
"Ah, I bet. Preying on broken people seems to be your thing."
The words just slipped from his lips, not even having the chance to think about what he was saying. This caused Hunter to take a step back, biting on his lip ring in a form of holding his tongue. He moved back off to his car again opening the door.
"I guess I might have been wrong about you. Quite disappointing really."
Hunter shook his head again before getting inside his car and pulling off causing enough noise for everyone to ask Devin what the fuck he said to piss Hunter off when he in got back inside the shop.
Once again lying.
Devin found himself glancing over at Sunshine more often than not that day. The jealousy as Hunter called it rising in him. Thinking to himself that Hunter was just slowly making his way through the group of them. Devin turned him away so Sunshine was his next victim.
He shook his head at the thought, it was stupid of him to get so worked up over nothing. Nothing happened, nothing was going to happen so why did he care so much?
His day only got better from there, getting a text from a ghost in his hometown letting him know that his older brother Dustin was getting released for prison soon and that it would be great for him to come home and see him.
It brought back dark memories that flooded his mind with things he wished he could just forget. Memories he thought he had forgotten. His past wasn't a place he liked to be at all, it was nothing but pain and suffering for him.
It had taken him many years to move past some of it and be in the place he was in now, a place of just being. Handling emotional stress wasn't something Devin dealt with well at all, for a long while he took it out on himself, cutting and scaring his body. Now he did his best to keep it bottled up and show that it didn't affect him. Personally not sure which of the two was worse.
