Ask: I've been wondering for a while now, if Anya's parents hated each other, why did they have her? Was it a accident or something? Why didn't they just put her up for adoption. I know irl a lot of abusive parents keep their kids but they it seems like Mr. And Mrs. Volko didn't want Anya very much. (P.s I know people have asked but have you ever considered drawing Anya's parents? Do you have at least a concept/description in your head of what they look like? Any idea what their names were?)
cursed-saphire-hart answered:
Well, to start off with, how i wrote the parents, is due to stories my family have told with first or second hand experiences with child abuse/neglect, how i put this all together based on those, with verifying research.
Anyas parents, Axel and Dorothy (or just Dolly) didn't like eachother, but were set up by their parents, and thanks to their rotten personalities, no body else wanted to marry them, so in the end it was a marriage built on a joined income. They were both already nearing their 30s when they married.
Having Anya was an active choice, the reason being to both look like a stable, NORMAL couple to their families that way and for the financial benefits from welfare. Neither WANTED kids for maternal reasons, it's just for money reasons, infact both hate children. On top of that their families were more likely to help out if they had a child in need of ACTUAL CARE.
The two did have the mindset to actually save money though, since they both wanted to leave Russia some day.
Dollys parents died when Anya was 6, and Alex's father when she was 10 (her grandmother died before she was born) so with the combined life insurance they were able to leave Russia, but obviously without anyone to actually take Anya off their hands (without giving up childcare support, bc they SUCK) they started abusing her rather than just ignoring her when their "better life plan" started taking a turn.
Axel had messy dark brown hair and blue eye's like Anya, but her face shape and body type are more inline with her mother. Dolly had light brown hair with a bit of sun bleached blond highlights and brown eyes.
If you asked Anya though, she'd say she got her traits from her Poppy and Grandma (her poppy had dark brown almost black hair, and blue eyes, and her grandma was blond with blue eyes too)
I almost hated having to write them as I do Amanda's parents.

anonymous asked:
Did either of them even care about Anya at all? Like, at least 3% of the way? Did they care that she grew up just wanting to win their affection? I would assume Dolly at least had the instinctual motherly feeling somewhere right next to her cold black heart, dunno about Axel tho
cursed-saphire-hart answered:
That 3% is why she didn't straight up DIE due to abuse or be used as a *clears throat* "way to get quick cash"
Like i said, they had rotten personalities, and neither WANTED kids for maternal reasons, meaning kids in general aren't for them at all. They gave the minimum care to her that kept her alive, bc there's some humanity left in them. When researching it, I've read a few things on how parents with no maternal instincts towards their children are detached and basically treat it as watching a strangers kid rather than "raising" their own.
Neither made sure if Anya ate or if she bathed let alone had her hair brushed or changed her clothes, which she had to learn to do on her own. They bought her clothes when she wore her clothes to the point of having holes bc they knew if they noticed, someone else would too.
Anya was a stranger to them from birth, and if they didn't have rotted hearts, she would have just grown up feeling unloved rather than flat out abused.
Her mother got annoyed easily so she yelled a lot, but nothing physical other than grabbing her too hard or dragging her around. Her father got bad while drunk bc like his wife, had a short fuse, so the occasional slap or getting thrown to the ground. Her getting sick in anyway was treated as an inconvenience, and she was just told to stay in bed and not bother them (which is why her infection, that caused her pregnancy issues later in life, was left unchecked till it did serious damage)
It wasn't quite the walking on eggs shells situation most people think it was for her, and like I've said, she developed a survival quirk to keep things at a minimum. But bc of that, she still had the hope of being loved by them while also growing to despise them at the same time.

Ask: Did Dolly or Axel ever do anything nice for Anya? Like maybe get her something small while shopping. The idea here would be that they showed her at least some form of kindness, so knowing that it existed would be what motived her to try and get more of it. Of course I don't actually know why she tried because that was just an idea
cursed-saphire-hart answered:
Yea, probably.
A small note is that neglected or abused children will often continue to seak out their parents affection, try to do better, and always think it was their fault if their parents acted hostile. Those who realize the truth will still have trouble accepting it, while those who don't realize will work themselves raggid trying to obtain the impossible.
Dolly was absent minded when buying clothes, n usually just bought anything cheap, pink and that would fit her, n if Anya asked why all her clothes were usual pink, she'd just say that was the color Anya looked best in (a monotone comment to get her to stop asking)
Axel wasn't a person for sweets, n didn't really buy them aside from coffee and Dollys favorite creamer (bc lord knows Dolly would nag him if he didn't) and since Anya liked the smell of coffee, it was just easier for him to give her some that was left over in the morning (with creamer and milk) to get her to stay quiet.
Luckily Anya wasn't a picky eater so she was happy when Axel would give her coffee every morning since it seemed like a special treat when she'd get a cup. (Hence her coffee addiction)
If Anya stared at a toy, her parents would just get her one or a candy bar to keep her quiet the rest of the trip and from wondering off while shopping, bc god only knows what the grandparents or neighbors might say if they left her home alone. Though stuff like this fizzled out by the time she was a teen, bc by than neither thought they needed to do anything for her at all. To them she was big enough to take care of herself, and if she made a mess, broke something, or cause an inconvince, it was solely her fault and they'd get pissed.
Anyas mind set was, if mom n dad were yelling at her, she did something wrong, if dad had a bottle stay quiet and out of sight. Easy enough to do until your body starts changing and you suddenly have 50 questions and no one to anwser them. Bc A) her parents would get annoyed, and B) both neglected to help her learn English, bc they both finished school so why should they help with school work.
P.s. her clingy nature is due to going from being doted and loved on by her grandparents (therefore not noticing her parents were as bad as they were) to dealing the bunt of her parents awfulness when she couldn't turn to others for help or clarity. Course this also meant she didn't have any real friends in the UK and to feel safe, she clung onto any affection she could get.
