It was very peculiar indeed. Usually normal humanoids never made it out this far into the Sweem Moor, let alone have the fortitude to make their way this deep into the jungle. Yet here he. She? The figure was so bundled in robes it was hard to tell. Harder still to fathom how it has managed to walk for so long in this heat wearing all of that. I flicked my tongue out, tasting the air left in this bumblers' wake. No, definitely not wayward kin at least. Besides, a pureblood would know better to wander straight into these ruins, even if they were frequented by others of it's kind.
I silently slithered through the underbrush, long serpentine tail propelling me quietly through the leaves. This wanderer had my interest peaked. As an abomination I was gifted with being much more "divine" than most of my other kin. My body was that of an immense serpent, dull yellow keeled scales broken by a smattering of black helped to break up my image as I trailed the wanderer. I stifled a hiss of amusement as he kicked his foot unto one of the bumpy ancient flagstones. Muttered curses were barely audible, though I could sense he became excited at seeking a sign of civilization. A scholar? Even more interesting.
My beautiful familiar, a bush viper, poked it's head from it's hiding place in my bags. "You will need to do a favor for me." I spoke into it's mind as it brushed lovingly round my neck. "Follow him in. I will be watching." The viper slid away, following the wanderer into the clearing as he stared, awestruck at the ruins he had found. My viper would be much less conspicuous that me following him, as a Yuan-ti abomination may scare him, or worse, cause him to attack. Focusing my senses I saw through the vipers eyes, watching as the humanoid picked his way though the buildings.
As he made his way into the main building, I returned to my own eyes and made my way into the ruins. As I approached the entrance to the main building, I distinctly heard the sound of someone collapsing to the ground. I made my way in to the humanoid laying sprawled upon it's back, muttering something about thinking this place was abandoned. Now is as good a time as any I suppose. My familiar coiled on his chest, looking at him, while enjoying the warmth of his body. Focusing my mind onto the wanderer's I spoke, even as he faded.
"It was never abandoned." I whispered.
