Summoned?’
'No. Can’t say that to her, yet I couldn’t explain it either’
Sam was stuck for a few seconds. ‘What should I do?’ She extended her arms to Sam.
“I was summoned too. It’s been almost 300 years since I left my plane. Which one are you from?”
‘Is she from somewhere else too?’
“Sorry, my bad. Let me introduce myself.”
She stood uplifting the helm of her gown. There was a taint of the rose inner layer visible. She proceeded to do a European style curtsy. When our eyes met, she had a knowing look. She lifted her helm too high on purpose.
And then she, with her sweet voice continued. “I am Lucy Gustove Vannier from planet 2201 called Earth. It has been a pleasure meeting you.” After that, she held her head high with pride.
She was from Earth.’ I lost my baring for a few seconds. She seemed more pleased with it.
“Sam Lisben, Earth.” I said after a few more seconds.
“Earth?”, her smile was so radiant Sam almost couldn't open his eyes. She suddenly grabbed his hands and rushed him through another room. What followed was hard to follow conversation.
Lucy had an abusive father. She wished for Santa to escape from him. Then, next Christmas she again asked to remain young forever. The very next Christmas Santa came and whisked her away. From then to date, she got posted as the holy maiden of the Fermore cathedral. Due to her fear of men, she could not find a good husband and was now too old and grew bored with the younger men. Forever young has become a curse for her.
Sam also got to know that the world he was on was a transitional plain called Athen. This was the plane where gods resided. Earth and thousands of other planes were once a part of it and broken off by the gods over time. He also found out that it was possible to leave if he wanted to as long as he can find the god that summoned him.
Sam had no plans to leave.
The currencies were copper, silver, and gold. There was also an all-mighty system in place for summoned beings. But to activate it, you needed to visit your god and seek permission. Lucy’s system helps her to cast high tier magic.
Magic was available for exceptional beings. Not everyone could use it but most summons could use it with the help of these systems. Sam wasn’t sure. So far, Yama hasn’t even whispered to him about such a system. Neither did he nor Lucy know where Yama stayed. Not to mention Athens was a lot larger than Earth.
There was also a restriction on who could own gold coins. It was placed by the rulers to prevent internal ways. This was another reason for having a system as it could help Sam store his golds in the pocket dimension.
Sam got away from Lucy after a bit of effort. With the basic knowledge of Athens and an elixir of knowledge, he left for the closest inn to settle for the day. lucy was even happy to hand him a few silver coins and a promise to help if he needs something. According to her, that should last him a few weeks.
Fermore city was large. It was one of the major cities in Singala province. While Sam was walking towards the inn, he found a large building with a few billboards outside. Curious, he proceeded to check it out. They were all merchant contracts. It was the merchant guild store of ‘Legendary merchant guild’.
‘The letter in my paper box’.
He used his plaque to enter the store and asked for the office. They were happy to help. In a few minutes, Sam was already in front of the manager's office. Laura was an assistant here. To his great surprise, Laura looked old. Very old. There was at least a fifty-year age gap between her and her mom.
Looking at the surprised me, Laura smiled.
“I see you met my mom. We looked similar when I was twelve. She never ages. It's hard to anywhere with her.”
‘If half-faies don’t age, what about full faies?’. Sam had his thoughts running wild. He proceeded to hand her the letter.
Laura grabbed it eagerly and proceeded to read it without even asking me to sit. Soon she was done and turned to Sam.
“Are you looking for a job? Since mom has given you the letter, she thinks good of you. It’s a simple one too.”
“Job? What would I be doing?”
“Sending a few supplies to her outpost. A few new armors and weapons. They are also running short on dried food.”
“I don’t have a caravan, sorry” I tried to turn it down but she was persistent.
“Don’t worry about those. We can support you. Also, the pay is quite good. We will pay you one silver for it.”
“So, there are lots of stuff then.”
“It's just twelve carts. Besides, there will be a few guards accompanying you”.
Only traders or merchants could do business. It was necessary to have a merchant with a caravan. It was a rule within Athens.
Sam thought about it for a few seconds and decided to take it up. After he took the elixir of knowledge, he was able to read his plaque. He was a rank F merchant. The higher the rank, the better his scope. And the only way to increase his rank was through trades.
“Ok, I will take up that job but I will need to buy a few carts of my own first.”
Laura went to the table behind her and took out a contract. It required him to travel to desert outpost 322 and transfer goods to merchant Sicily. Once he returns he would receive the commission from Laura. This setup was good.
Laura extended her hand and said, “Welcome to Legendary Merchants Guild. You said you wanted to buy carts. We can get you spacious carts at a 20% lower cost. It's one silver for a cart with one bull and we can give it to you for 800 copper.”
Laura became a professional within seconds.
Sam bought a cart from her. Had a roof over and could carry a ton. The bulls were much larger than expected. The seat was designed to carry the food underneath it for the bulls. It was necessary when traveling through the desert.
Soon, Sam obtained his Legendary merchant guild employee badge and headed for the desert outpost 322.
