Chapter Thirteen
Reunion.
About thirty feet from the gate we were told to stop and although I told my men to I kept walking. As I approached the gate it seemed to break down and it took me a second to recognize what it was made of. It’s something my scientists have been working on. A device that can construct and deconstruct objects. These guys are decades ahead of my most promising scientists. Why is it so easy to kill them if they have this kind of technology? Looks like I might get a little present for my research team out of this. When I step through the gate I’m met with a surprise. My father the doctor who studied me during my containment and before they decided to cut me open. He is holding a lever down on a device about the size of an industrial generator. “Is that what’s keeping the gate open doctor?” He looks sad, heartbroken, and perhaps even a tiny bit of anger. He doesn’t however lose the calmness and somewhat neutral expression I’ve seen throughout my life. “That and it maintains the wall as well. Have you finally realized we’re your best bet of freeing you from this Inanis creature?” I couldn’t help but chuckle at this. Is this why they haven’t shot me? The ridiculous hopes of an ignorant father. “You don’t understand any of this, do you? I have already been saved and not by you. No not by my father who allowed his son to be dissected, but by Inanis. He is not a creature he is a god.” Surprised a smile crosses my face as I suddenly feel one of the guards’ minds and better yet he’s malleable. I start to turn him with little mental nudges. Just a few words and I can start moving him towards the machine my father is operating. He can keep the gate open as my men take care of the rest of his former comrades. My father however is mine to toy with. “I see and what can you tell me about this god of yours?” Fantastic in answering my father’s question I can convert the guard. “You only need to open your mind and let me in. You will know both clarity and purpose. In time with your help we may all even know peace. Join me and you’ll never need to worry about good or evil. When you question know that what you do is necessary.” I can feel the guard give in and start walking towards the machine. I still can’t reach anyone else. Then when the guard enters my field of vision I see why. He looks the same as the rest except that he’s not wearing a helmet.
My father is still processing what I’ve said when the guard reaches the machine and takes a position behind my him. Now that I understand why I couldn’t reach the guards I issue my soldiers new orders. Capture who you can and kill the rest. I stretch my arms out as if I had just gotten out of bed. “Well I think it’s about time we get started. Inanis I believe we are still in range of your abilities how about we have some fun. Can I get some orchestral music please?” I raise my hands like a maestro and as I do a beautiful rising symphony fills the area. For a moment, I move as if orchestrating the music until I feel the proper drop in tone coming and I set things in motion. The second my arms drop several things happen at once. Firstly, the guard I positioned behind my father takes the lever from him to hold the gate open. He also breaks his right knee and puts a gun to his head. At the same time my soldiers rush through the gate with blinding efficiency killing a half dozen guards. The rest are subdued with nonlethal shots. As my people line up the surviving guards two more show up atop the wall. One of my men throws me his sidearm and my shots line up perfectly with the end of the music. I hand the guards gun back and return my attention to my father. “Now that was beautiful. Such perfect timing from my soldiers and the music was masterful. I have no idea who it was, but I think I’ll have to look up some more orchestral music.” A couple of my men have stacked the bodies of the guards in front of my father. A decent enough seat in a pinch. My father’s eyes are wide open and he’s shaking. I have to snap my fingers a few times to get his attention. “Don’t worry I have a medic with me. He’ll be here in a moment, but for the time being let’s have a chat.”
