Chapter Fourteen
Immortal.
The medic comes over and I signal him to start treating my father. “See we can be nice, but more to the point I need all the information you have on The Company. I’d rather avoid interrogation and instead make you an offer. Tell me everything you know and I’ll let you work for me. I’ll let you study in some of the most advanced labs known to man. What do you think?” He looked to me with defiance in his eyes. Considering them I saw that he didn’t see me as a son in that moment. In that moment, he saw a monster. Afterwards however I see something break in him and his eyes start to tear up. “I know my son is in there and I will find him.” The look in his eyes. A conviction as hard as steel. I feel an itch in the back of my mind, but only for a second. I see through my soldiers that’s all the remaining company guards have been lined up and had their helmets removed. I smile and clap my hands together. “Excuse me for one moment I have some business to attend to.” I approach the guards. Sadly, only five out of the dozen are malleable enough to be converted. I extend my arms welcomingly. “Inanis calls for you to follow me. In doing so you will serve him and earn rewards you couldn’t possibly imagine.” Usually a few words are enough to convert those who are malleable. It’s strange I feel their minds slipping towards me when they suddenly snap back. I can feel that even Inanis is confused by this. Then I hear my father chuckling. I walk the short distance to him. “Now what have you done?” I see pride in his eyes. “I didn’t know if it would work. We know precious little about how you convert people so I covered everything I could. You can’t get to them now I made sure of it.” I sigh. “How unfortunate.” I raise my hand and snap my fingers. Almost simultaneously my soldiers kill the remaining guards. I point at the converted guard. “You missed one.”
My father shut his eyes as soon as he heard the shots. I start to talk to him when I hear gunfire. My soldiers can’t react in time. Less than two seconds and all my people are dead. I slowly step towards the center of the road clapping. “Well done, well done indeed.” I might get to use some of that training I undertook during the past two years. Thanks to Inanis I progressed five times as much as a normal man. I can still feel the pain from those lessons. Both me and Inanis are quite excited by the thought of finally putting that training to use. I put my hands forward offering them to cuff me. “Come on I won’t bite. You have my word.” One of them approached, but slowed down considerably when a big toothy smile stretched across my face. The other guards closed in until they were only ten feet away. More than close enough for me. Now all I need is for them to drop their guard for one second. The guard with the handcuffs moves faster now probably spurred on by the presence of his comrades. The handcuffs are thicker and sturdier than normal with strange etchings in them. I get a sense of repulsion at the mere sight of them. I hoped I wouldn’t have to put them on to get them to lower their guards. Luckily the instant before he closed the first cuff around my wrist I could sense their rifles lower if only slightly. In one swift movement, I grip his forearms with enough force to shatter both bones and take his gun. With the strap holding him up creating a human shield at my back. I kill a few with the gun while closer the distance with another. When the rifle runs out I drop both it and its previous owner. I take three bullets before I get to another guard quickly killing him with his own knife. This one however wasn’t going down easy. The moment I stabbed him he had pulled the pin on a grenade. I used his body to shield me and the blast flung me next to the guard who’s arms I had broken. He was still breathing somehow. “Told you I wouldn’t bite.” The moment I jumped to my feet I was filled with bullets. I’m not sure how many, but they could accurately describe me as swiss cheese. I fall to my knees somehow, I’m not quite dead. I know that it will only be a few moments though before I drain one of them and come back. “I wonder which of you it’ll be.” In this lull before I die I see my father loaded into one of their vehicles and taken away. The guards start to walk backwards away from me. I assume they figure they’re far enough away because I see one raise his rife and everything goes black.
