"Why are you here in human form? Are you not going to help Dad with the threat?" I ask Brother.
"I'm enjoying the sun. It's just a couple of weak feral wolves. I think he can manage it himself quite easily, but he is going to make it seem like he can’t. He’ll command everyone to force you to come save them from the threat, then he’ll make you the next leader of the pack. I’m just so glad he’ll stop commanding the pack once you’re Leader. It’s unsettling how he controls their minds like that." Drew snarl in disgust.
Has the day come that brother finally sees how Dad controls everyone to think his way is right? Is this the effect of brother being strong enough to read Dad's mind. Maybe I can finally get through to him?
I look him straight in the eyes. “Brother, I have to leave."
He look away. "We’ve been through this before-"
“Brother! I am not ready. Nobody in this pack really knows me. They don't trust me and they are scared of me.”
“I’ve told you this, it takes time to gain their friendship. When you are Leader, you can work on it. Everyone will follow you without question. You will be a great Leader just trust yourself" Drew smile with confidence.
"No, Dad has made you believe that I should be the next Leader, but you, the first born, should be Leader. It’s your place, not mine, and everybody loves you brother. Please, become leader for me and everyone else. We need you to be Leader.” I plead.
Brother let out a sigh and look at me with sad, but knowing eyes. "You really don't want to be the Leader do you?" He ask, and I start to feel happy hoping that maybe he is finally getting it.
I shake my head and smile. “No, I don’t.” Brother closes his eyes.
"Okay, I will take up your duty until you are back and become Leader,” he stops and stares into my eyes looking for something. “But, you have to promise me that you will come back and become Leader. You are the rightful Leader of this pack, even if you don't like it. It is your responsibility. Grow up some, do what you want, and then come back to take over. Don't run away from this forever. "
"Sure I will, whatever you say, I just think Dad has brainwashed you to think like that and you just don't know any better, but I promise I will come back." I said gleefully and truthfully, because I do know that I would want to come back to my homeland one day, but hopefully when I do come home Brother will realize that he is the perfect Leader and will not want me to take over. Hopefully, he will see the truth.
"Since Dad is wanting to step down from his position as Leader. I will relieve him of it.” Drew said harshly. I saw in his mind what he was planning to do. He was going to sweep in and finish the threat quickly before Dad can stop him. This will make Drew look like he save the day.
He will use this chance to make Dad step down from Leader, which should be very easy. After all, Dad only plans on playing the part that he is weak and hurt from this threat attack in front of the pack. Drew's mind show that he is fed up with Dad's control. Him being able to read Dad's mind has open his eyes that Dad might not be a good Leader anymore for the pack.
Dad used to be a great Leader, but once Mom died he has had a tough time. Mom and Dad weren’t bond mates, but they loved each other deeply. Five years ago, Mom didn't come back from a hunt. We tried to look for her, but it was impossible to find something invisible and scentless in the snow, unless she had been attack and cover in blood.
Sadly, we didn't find anything. Maybe that's why Dad doesn't want any talk about leaving. Maybe he’s just scare of being left alone?
"Good plan you have there! You will make a great leader. Good luck!" I happily laugh at brother and he just rolled his eyes
"Be safe! Take care of yourself. I will miss you. You better hurry up before Dad starts thinking it's odd that you’re not coming. I love you. " He said while giving me a big hug.
"I love you and will miss you, too, Brother. Thank you!" I hug him back, then I hurry and transform into my wolf and take off like a rocket.
Brother is right. I don't have much time left before Dad will start figuring it out that I'm not coming to his aid and before that happens I also need to get as much distance from the pack as I can.
