There is a mystery from the mountains of Kii that tells of a strange little creature that no one has ever seen.

On snowy winter nights after people have gone to bed, creatures from the mountains will roam freely. By morning when everyone wakes they find that in fresh drifts of snow there are rounded footprints, but there are only one set of prints, as though whoever made them hopped on one leg.

Some people speculate that a child from the village who hops around on one foot for a game, or perhaps they dislike walking in the cold snow.

Other rumours go further and say the prints are made by a one-legged creature, possibly a yokai come down from the mountains. 

No one knows for certain, as no one has ever stayed up long enough to see it. When people try to stay awake to see who it is they either fall end up falling asleep or see nothing out of the ordinary. 

Yet, every morning without fail only one set of footprints can be seen in the snow.
