Let me explain to you how the game of a hundred tales works.
We each take turns telling a tale we've once heard. It may be a tale of humans or a tale of the strange and mysterious. Either way, there will be no more than a hundred of them.
They say that if we blow out a candle for every story told a monster will appear. "Monster" in our language is "bakemono," but more broadly, we call these strange occurrences "yokai."
Should we reach the hundredth tale and fear the arrival of a yokai then the night of telling tales will end with only ninety-nine stories.
This chilly season keeps us indoors, so let us begin with tales of winter.
