Cade slid backwards as he dug his claws into the gravel on the rooftop. He remained crouched but took a second to catch his breath. He had been fighting Shalek the Ambitious for about five minutes. Fights always seemed to slow down time around him so fighting for this long was tiring. I need to end this. I need to get to Ricky. He looked around for his phone to try to listen to what was going on with the others but couldn’t see or hear it anywhere. “Hey, keep your eyes on me little kitty,” Shalek barked as he lunged forward for another swipe. Cade managed to dodge and land a couple slashes of his own before Shalek put some distance back between them. This is how it had been. Each one getting a few good hits in here and there but nothing fatal or serious. It looked as if it would be a fight of stamina for them both.
“Well I think I’ve played with my food long enough,” stated Shalek as he composed himself. He let out a roar that seemed to reverberate through Cade’s very soul. It struck him and he could feel waves of energy suppressing him like a weight. He tried to move and didn’t go anywhere. What? Not good. “Haha,” chuckled Shalek. “You didn’t actually think a little house cat like you would be more powerful than a lion such as myself? My roar makes any feline other than another lion submit to my power. Now be a good little kitty and die.” Shalek lept forward claws ready to impale. “Link activate, Rabbit,” Cade said to himself. The purple energy that formed the claws on the outside of his shoes shifted and formed flat, elongated feet. It grew up the outside of his pants and bulged out, forming the outline of muscular thighs and calves. His once pointy purple ears became long and floppy. His tail remained long and he kept his claws on his hands. Right before Shalek reached him, he straightened himself and leaped into the air. He was 15 feet high in an instant. He kicked off of what seemed like nothing midair and dashed to the other side of the roof. Shalek stood dumbfounded. “What, you thought you were the only chimera here?” Cade retorted. “Travis didn’t mention you could do that,” Shalek replied through gritted teeth. “Seems you’ve got a few surprises up your sleeve. Well I guess I should start getting serious too.”
Shalek gathered dark spiritual energy around his claws, licking them menacingly. He slashed the air in Cade’s direction, sending out five slashes of dark energy that shot towards Cade quickly. But Cade was half cat, half rabbit. He was faster in this form. He dodged the slashes no problem. But just as soon as he dodged one set, another was on its way from a different direction. Shalek was moving pretty fast himself and sending out wave after wave of slashes. It was all Cade could do to dodge them. He didn’t want to find out what would happen if one of them hit.
This is bad. I’m not good at long range fights. I usually have the others to cover me. I haven’t had to fight by myself in a while. I got comfortable being around everyone. I knew it was only a matter of time before being social would come back to bite me in the butt. No. I can’t go down that road of thinking. Gotta stay focused. Look for an opening. Come on Cade. You can do this.
Cade saw a set of slashes coming in on his left. He dodged to the right. “Gotcha,” said Shalek as he appeared right in front of him. Crap. How’d he get here so quickly? Shalek plunged his claws right into Cade’s stomach. Cade threw his hand back and screamed out in pain. “Hunting prey comes naturally to a lion, house cat. Setting up feints and pushing you to where I want you to be is what I live for. It gets me pumped.” Shalek’s eyes were mad with excitement. Cade struggled to get free but Shalek’s claws were in deep. Next thing he knew, Shalek sank his teeth right into Cade’s shoulder. Cade let out another shriek as searing pain made his vision go blurry for a second. I gotta get out of this. I gotta put some distance between us. “Link activate,” Cade strained to say through raspy breath, “Spirit Slip.” In an instant Cade was gone, leaving Shalek grasping nothing but air.
