"Alright, let's get these presents wrapped! Jackson, mind helping your sister with her wrapping if she needs it?" Norri called over towards her and Cameron's adopted son.
Jackson nodded in response. "Sure, ma. Let's go set up in your room, squirt." he responded, turning to his sister and playfully rustling her hair as he said the last part. Elanor playfully pouted and stuck her tongue out at her brother in response to what he had said. Though, soon enough, the two headed off to Elanor's room with Cameron and Norri heading off to their own room to wrap presents.
Upon entering the room, Cameron smiled softly. "I can't believe it's already been nearly a year since we adopted them..." she spoke, setting the bags of presents she had bought down on the floor beside one side of the bed.
Norri let out a soft laugh and nodded in response. "Same here... I remember Jackson barely spoke a word to us when we first adopted him... and Elanor was pretty much the same way." as she set her bags of presents down on the floor on the opposite side of the bed Cameron was on.
"I'm glad they've opened up to us, at least a little... they're both a lot more talkative." Cameron added with a smile as she began to wrap the presents she had bought.
"Same here. Remember when they called you mom for the first time?"
"Oh, that was amazing. I remember I couldn't stop crying for the rest of the day. It just made me so happy." Cameron responded with a soft laugh.
"Yeah, you were a bit of a mess. But still, I'm glad they're comfortable enough to think of us as their parents now... I'm sure it was a bit difficult for them to adjust to having parents again after what I heard happened to them. Those assholes who hurt them didn't deserve to have kids." Norri's voice took on a bit of an angered tone as she said the last part.
"Yeah... but still, they were their parents, whether we like it or not... and look at where they are now. They're both with us and seem pretty happy." Cameron responded in a gentle tone, smiling. "And this might sound bad, but if their parents hadn't hurt them, then we wouldn't have been able to adopt them. They may have grown up in bad circumstances, but we're here for them now."
"You're right, but still... I just wish their parents didn't have to hurt them for them to get thrown into the system. And I can't believe no one wanted to adopt them! I mean, they're amazing kids!" Norri responded with a sigh.
"Well, you know how a lot of parents looking to adopt are... they want a baby that they can raise together, not a teenager who would be moving out soon and an eight year old who was scared of their own shadow... and one kid alone takes a lot of hard work and money, so adopting another at the same time would be even more difficult."
"Yeah... but still, to pass up on two perfectly amazing kids just because they're older and have some issues..." Norri spoke before sighing again.
"I know, but that's just the way the world is... and besides, they're ours now, so... maybe it was fate holding out for us to adopt them."
Norri let out a soft chuckle, nodding in agreement with what her wife had said. "Yeah, maybe it was."
The two soon fell into a comfortable silence for a few moments before Cameron spoke up again. "Ya know what? We need some Christmas music while we wrap these presents!"
Norri let out a soft laugh as she nodded in response. "Alright, put some on. Just nothing too overly preachy and religious, alright?"
"Alright, alright. Wasn't planning on putting anything like that on, anyways. I was just gonna put on some classical Christmas music." Cameron responded, soon playing the music she had mentioned, a simple video of assorted jazzy classical Christmas tunes. The two soon fell back into silence as they finished wrapping up their presents.
"I really hope the kids like the gifts I got them... I've never been too good with picking out presents and I really want to make their first Christmas with us special..." Norri spoke in a slightly nervous tone.
Cameron walked over to her, wrapping her arms around her in a comforting manner. "I'm sure they'll love them, honey. Speaking of the kids, why don't we see how they're holding up, yeah?" she suggested, placing a kiss on Norri's cheek.
Norri smiled brightly at the kiss, nodding in response to the suggestion. "Yeah, let's go check on them. I'm sure Elanor is excited to show us her gift wrapping skills." she responded with a soft laugh as she stood up. With that, the two headed over to Elanor's room, with Cameron knocking on the door.
Jackson answered the door after a few moments. "Hey, mom, what's up? Need something?"
"Oh, we were just checking to see how you and Elanor were doing on wrapping gifts." Cameron responded with a smile.
"Oh, we actually just finished." Jackson responded, with Elanor soon coming up behind him, a grin on her face.
"Mommy! Mama! Look at the pretty wrapping paper I used for Uncle Ryan's gift! And I wrapped it myself!" she chimed in, holding the present she had mentioned.
"Wow, you did such a good job sweetie!" Cameron responded, lightly rustling her daughter's hair in an affectionate manner, causing Elanor to burst out into soft giggles.
"Hey, I got an idea. Since we're all finished wrapping our presents, how about we watch a few movies while we get the house decorated?" Norri suggested, earning smiles from Jackson, Elanor, and Cameron.
"That sounds like a great idea, ma." Jackson responded.
"Oooo, can I pick out the movie? Please, please, please, mama?" Elanor asked, her eyes practically sparkling with excitement.
Norri couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. "Well, if it's alright with everyone else, you can."
"I'm fine with it. Pick a good movie, alright squirt?" Jackson responded, teasingly rustling his sister's hair.
"I'm fine with it, too." Cameron added, smiling at the scene between the two siblings.
Elanor practically lit up like a Christmas tree in response to what they had said. "Yay!" she chimed, rushing off to look through the Christmas movies they had. The other three laughed softly at the girl's antics as they followed her in to the living room where she was already settling on the movie she wanted to watch, this one being Rise of the Guardians.
"Heh, figured you'd choose that movie. You're obsessed with it." Jackson teased as he helped Cameron and Norri look through the boxes of decorations.
"I like Jack Frost! He's cute!" Elanor piped up in response, going to help with the decorations once she had started the movie up.
"Oh, so is that why you like the movie so much?" Jackson responded, a teasing smile on his face.
Elanor playfully stuck her tongue out at him. "It's not the only reason! It has a good message too!" she retorted. Cameron and Norri let out soft laughs as they watched the antics between the two.
Soon enough, the four began to set up decorations. Elanor handled the more sturdy ones, just because Cameron and Norri didn't want her accidentally breaking any.
As they decorated, Jackson spoke up. "So, Uncle Ryan's bringing his family over for Christmas? And Uncle Jasper's coming too?"
"Yep. They're pretty excited to meet you two. Ryan's actually going to close his shop for the holidays so he can come down here with his wife and kids. Oh, and his daughter's around your age, Jackson, so you'll have someone to hang out with." Cameron responded with a smile.
"What about Uncle Jasper? Does he have a family?" Elanor inquired.
"Well, no. He's never really been interested in having a family. He's just happy on his own, running his own little coffee shop." Norri chimed in.
"Oh, okay!" Elanor responded cheerfully before going off to put up the decorations she had just been handed.
The decorating went like this for a little while, with Cameron and Norri answering any questions Jackson and Elanor had about their uncles, aunt, and cousins. Eventually, they had gotten most of the house decorated, with the tree they had bought being the last thing left.
With the movie coming to a close in the background, the four got to work grabbing ornaments and adorning the tree with them. All the while, they shared plenty of jokes, laughs, and on Cameron and Norri's side, stories from when they were younger. Eventually, the time came for the star to be put up on the tree.
Once Elanor noticed, she excitedly asked. "Can I put the star on? Please please pleeeeeaaaaaase?"
Letting out a soft laugh, Cameron and Norri nodded. "Of course you can, honey. Just be careful, though, alright?" Cameron responded, handing Elanor the star.
Elanor excitedly nodded before turning to her brother. "Jackson, can you lift me up so I can reach the tippy top and put the star on?" she asked, reaching her arms out for him.
Jackson smiled in response. "Sure thing, squirt." he said before gently lifting her up and placing her on his shoulders. "Can you reach?" he asked, glancing up towards his sister.
"Yeah!" Elanor responded cheerfully and then saying "Okay, I got it!" a few moments later, prompting Jackson to put her down.
"Good job, kiddo." he spoke, playfully rustling his sister's hair, causing her to burst out into soft giggles.
"This is gonna be the best Christmas ever!" Elanor chimed excitedly.
Jackson let out a soft laugh, nodding in agreement as he looked towards Cameron and Norri who were smiling softly at the scene between the two. "Yeah, it will." he responded.
Excitedly, Elanor raced over to Cameron and Norri, practically dragging Jackson along with her, before wrapping them in a tight hug.
"Thanks for being our mommies! You're the best!" she exclaimed.
"Yeah, thanks, you two..." Jackson added, joining in on the hug. This certainly was going to be a good Christmas.
