As time has passed the school was built.

The school was divided into two base sections: starter school and high school.

The little kids go to the starter school and learn the basics. After that they graduate to the high school and choose a certain skill path they like to explore while still learning the other ones.

Those who finished their schooling could become researchers and stay on as teachers.

The school had a dorm for boys and girls, and facilities for daily use.

As the school grew more businesses opened around it until it became a small village, de facto making Tom the chief.

Small inns and rest spots popped all around the roads of the coalition, bringing more people to those spots making small settlements.

Slowly entire villages started to relocate inside the coalition.

All the original villages became cities with the Tom transit system contacting everything.

Some of his students invented other devices including some small flying ships and opened primary school in every settlement.

A big lake and long rivers also were created.

3 years have passed, Tom was chosen as the head of the coalition.

The school that he built became the largest city of the coalition, and the capital.

Things seemed good, they even had trades with villages and cities outside the coalition. They became more known around the world.

One day a gourd opened the door of Tom’s office in a hurry he almost broke the door.

Tom looked up from the papers on his desk.

“Now I understand why the chief was always upset with me every time I entered his office. O.k, guard what is it?”

“Yes sir, sorry sir. General Sheleg has called to tell you that there is a large group of over a thousand villagers of all ages or races asking to enter the coalition, the general asked if you could come there yourself.”

“O.k. it seems something is wrong. I’ll be there in a minute.”

“Yes sir, I’ll let him know”

Tom stood up and went over to the balcony, looked over the city and flew away so fast he reached Sheleg location before the call arrived.

“Hello sir.” said Sheleg with a smile on his face.

“You came even faster than I thought. I hope you flew higher than last time.”

“Yes, yes, yes I learned that as the city get bigger and taller I need to fly higher”

“They are still fixing the hole in the wall you made flying through the housing tower, and that lady who lived in that tower housing unit you flew through told you that if you wanted to visit you could have just knocked.”

“Are you done? I asked you to forget that event or you’ll go patrolling the sewers.”

“Yes sir, sorry sir.“

“So Sheleg what is the problem?”

“The group of people that came, they are refugees from cities and villages from the border with the Karberon kingdom.

Apparently the kingdom started a purge of all non humans from their borders and they started an invasion.”

“O.k. let them in and treat them, divide them by their previous home and families. Ask them all what happened and then register them as citizens of the coalition, make sure to screen them for unwanted people. explain to them how things work here and find them work and a place to live.”

“Yes sir.”

“Sheleg?”

“Yes sir”

“Is the Shadow feathers unit ready? “

“Yes sir, I’ll send them right away”

“Remind them that they are a covert unit, and to try not to destroy anything.”

“Yes sir”

“I’m going back, report after every thing is done”

“Yes sir”

Tom flew back to his office.

When Tom got to his office, he called all the leaders of the coalition to explain the situation they are facing.

After four hours, Tom came out of his office where he saw Sheleg waiting for him.

Tom invites Sheleg to enter and to close the door behind him.

“You don’t look happy”

Sheleg said after looking at Tom's face.

“Well, I’m not”

“The leaders didn’t agree with your plan?”

“No, they agreed to it from the start”

“So why the long face and the long conference?”.

“They decide that we should declare ourselves a kingdom so we can accept refugees and also raise an army to protect our borders, with no problems from the other kingdoms.”

“That sounds reasonable”

Tom face palmed himself and rested his head on the desk.

“It is reasonable,and they already were in the process of that before all this situation”

“So what is the problem? All that seem to be agreed upon and shouldn't have taken so long.”

“All the talks took half an hour. The rest of the time was my fighting them not to make me king”

“Knowing you Tom, that makes sense. You lost didn’t you?”

“Big time, I didn't had a chance”

“You can fight hoards of monsters that can destroy mountains in a snap, but you can’t defeat those old geezers in a conversion”

“Yup”

“So you're now your highness”

“Don’t remained me”

Sheleg started walking towards the door.

“The report on the refugees is done and I gave it to your secretary. By the way, I’m not going to kneel before you or kiss your ring or any thing like that”

“funny Sheleg, very funny”

Sheleg left the office laughing and he closed the door behind him.

Tom was slightly depressed. He sighed, straightened himself and forcefully hit the desk with his hands.

The force of the hit made holes in the size of his palms.

A beep was heard.

A communication crystal appeared over the desk. An image appeared of Tom’s secretary.

“Sir, should I call maintenance to fix the desk? Again?”

“That won't be needed, I can fix it myself”

“Very good sir you have a full day today you should continue to the next order of business.”

In the following days more refugees came, saying that a big army is slowly conquering any settlement of non-humans or a mix that that kingdom is increasing their borders.

Tom officially became a king and he appointed the leaders as a concile and expedateded any civil or military problem regarding the refugees.

Tom used a new invasion of his, a device that can project images and sounds on surfaces or a very dense mist, called “orcaly”

He projected his image to give a speech to the entire kingdom.

“Citizen of the newly formed Carotus kingdom. For those who didn’t hear the news, Karberon kingdom started a campaign to purge all non-human not just from their territory but from others as well as they conquering all territories like a wave.

Tom sighed slightly and paused for a few seconds and continued.

“To protect our lives we had no choice but to create a kingdom so we could build a standing army. The leader of the coalition decided against my will to make me a king and to lead the kingdom to a better future.

We have four years until they will arrive here and if we could slow them down, we could get at least a year more.”

Tom took a second breath

“Therefore all citizens of the kingdom of Carotus, we are going to open a military academy, a civil worker academy and research academy.

If you want to join you don’t need to have a certain skill path. Anyone can join, we discovered that those skill paths are not the only way to advance. So join us to protect this kingdom, a place where it doesn't matter if you are human or not.”

Tom's projection ended.

Tom was in his office, sighing. He took his royal garments that he had on him for the projection speech, underneath those clothes he had a black fitted clothes, so dark he almost seemed flat.

In Tom‘s office a group of people including Sheleg were standing also in black fitted suits.

“We’re ready for your command sir”

Sheleg said in a military stand and attitude.

“Put your mask on and we’ll go soon as it starts to be dark. I hope you all can fly fast.”

“Yes sir”

Yelled proudly all the people in the office

“Sheleg, go to the gate an make sure that the new air carriage are ready”

“Yes sir”

As darkness fell on the land a group of people and Sheleg, gathered near the gate.

Tom approached them and started to inspect them.

He stood in front of them and started to give orders.

“You are part of our covered unit, the black father. You move in the shadows, you work in the shadows you are not known.”

“Yes sir”

“Our mission is to rescue the refugees and slow down the enemy advancement. You are going to the refugees, put them to sleep when they are in the new large air carriage. Remember those who are not used to fast flight or running, can get hurt so make sure they are asleep. 4 black feathers for one carriage.“

Sheleg stood next to Tom, greening.

Tom gave him a look to stop.

“Sheleg here will command you and keep the enemies off your back, your mission is to save the refugees. At that time I will face the enemy’s army and try to set them back a few years.”

Sheleg started laughing.

“Try not to win the war by yourself”

“Funny sheleg, do you want to clean the sewage system with your hands”

Sheleg stopped smiling and stood in attention.

“No sir, sorry sir”

“Very well, off we go”

Tom, Sheleg and the black feather unit, flow out over the wall with the carriages.

After they cleared the wall they started flying faster and faster, in less than an hour they reached their location.

Sheleg and the unit landed near the hidden refugees.

After a short explanation the refugees entered the carriages but one of them asked Sheleg to save the rest that had been enslaved by the soldiers.

After he made sure that all the full carriages left he went to the camp of the soldiers.

He took out all of the soldiers in the camp and led the refugees to the carriages and flew away with the carriages.

In the meantime, Tom flew so fast above the main army camp that the sound that he made scared all the raiding animals around and they ran away.

Tom landed so fast and hard on the ground that he made a large and deep crater. After he landed he opened the ground and made a large canyon that prevented the army from crossing.

He raised his hands and the ground around the army, rose to create a maze with the army stock in the middle.

Before Tom flew away he made spikes on his side of the canyon, to prevent the army from crossing. The canyon was so vast and deep that it will take the army more than a year to go around.

Tom flew back to his kingdom.

At the gate Tom welcomed all the refugees and assigned Sheleg to have them go through a medical analysis and process them to become citizens or help them find another place to live.

After that night more people asked to join the kingdom.

The walls needed to be extended over and over, for new settlements to be built.

Tom’s kingdom became the third largest but the richest one.
