The female spirit looked pale and had needle holes all over her arms. She still looked nicely dressed in a pair of jeans and a white tank top, though. However, the male spirit had a cloud of fire all around him, with his tattered, buttoned, plaid flannel shirt and tatted, navy jeans all burned up. The male ghost’s burned body horrified Amelia, seeing it; being burned to death is a horrible way to die. She had pity for that ghost.
“Jasper? Millie?” Amelia watched Darren speak to them as she moved closer to Darren.
“You know them?” She questioned.
“Yeah, they were members of Mark’s band, Midnight Force. They are the ones that have been haunting my band, starting a fire at our Underwood gig and bugging me! I want to know what these two want from me.” He glared at the ghosts, who just stood there, looking at the group.
“Wait. Nick and Gabby knew a ghost started the fire at the Underwood gig, but I didn’t think two dead, indie rock stars were doing the haunting!” Toby exclaimed.
As a Supernatural, hauntings were a thing in their society, but usually the ghosts do not harm them. If the ghost is a friendly spirit, then they usually leave the living alone. However, if they are a problem, then the living has to act to get rid of them. Amelia remembered that from the basic Necromancy class back in her Academy days. Unrested ghosts have unfinished business or just do not want to move on.
She also remembered the band Midnight Force, for finding inspiration for her songwriting. From what Amelia remembered of them, the band was a great band who had respect around the Supernatural music scene, despite never touring over the Supernatural towns for obvious reasons. Looking them up, a fire accident and drug addiction, which caught up to them, ended up killing the two dead bandmates. Maybe the spirits of Jasper and Millie did not want to move on to the next world.
Millie, who seemed to be the most friendly, came forward to speak to Darren, “Darren… It’s been so long. Are these three people your friends?”
Amelia saw Darren rubbing his neck, then turning to Toby, Halden, and her nervously. He responded, “Yes and no, two of them are kinda my friends and the other one is a Mage who has the power to communicate with you.”
“Wow, that’s harsh.” Halden is still using his magic energy, keeping the communication active.
Amelia did not know how long Halden could keep this communication line up.
“Let’s cut to the chase. Why are you two bothering me? Or anyone?! What do you two want?” Darren asked the spirits a bunch of questions.
The male spirit’s fire around him became brighter when the questions were being asked.
“We are here because we want to warn people!” Jasper shouted.
Amelia jumped when the male spirt had an outburst!
“Well, starting a fire at a building and scaring my bandmates isn’t the right way to warn people.” Crossing his arms, Darren was not taking Jasper's outburst .
She watched Millie touch Jasper’s shoulder to calm down. Jasper’s fire simmered down as he walked behind Millie. It looks like Millie is going to take over talking for Jasper, since he seems to be a far angrier spirit than she is. Millie continued the conversation with Darren, “Darren, you need to be careful. Your band and other artists under that label you are with are bad people and those Rise of Light people, stop meeting with them right now!”
“Wait, the Rise of Light?! What the? Are you communicating with them?!” Amelia interrupted them, moving up to Darren.
She felt uncomfortable about hearing about the Rise of Light. Amelia wanted to close her eyes when she heard the name. Toby came over to touch Amelia’s shoulder to calm her down before she had a panic attack.
“It’s okay, Amelia.” Toby said, then he shot an angry glare at Darren. “Have you been in contact with the Rise of Light?”
“Yeah, but it was only for my friend, Chantel! She wanted to know who she really was, due to them! It was to stop her getting sick constantly. I just wanted to support her and save the Mage community from my messed up father!” Darren answered back to Toby, then stopped to catch his breath before he could finish. “My brother told me that my amulet could stop him. The Rise of Light helped Chantel and even Leticia to embrace who they are…” He explained his side to why he contacted the group.
Amelia felt guilty, and she should have warned Darren sooner about them. How could she be so naïve about all this?! The spirits were quiet throughout all of Darren’s talk for a moment. However, Jasper’s fire flames brightened again when he flew over to him in rage.
“You trusted your asshole brother?! Get it back, Darren! He’s a fucking liar! He is the reason Millie and I are dead!” Jasper moved closer to Darren to the point his fire flames become more intimidating by growing larger!
Amelia almost yelled to Halden to stop the spirit communication until Millie stopped Jasper from nearly hurting Darren. Watching her push Jasper aside, the two spirits talk to each other away from their earshot. All Amelia heard was that Millie did not like how Jasper is going about this, while Jasper argued Millie is being too soft and they needed to act now. Finally, he stepped away from Millie. Jasper allowed Millie to take over once again.
“I’m running out of Aura. Make this quick. I can’t keep this up!” Halden called the group.
Amelia could tell the tired look in his eyes meant his magic can not keep up. Amelia went up to Darren and whispered, “Make it quick. Halden looks like he is going to pass out soon.”
“Millie, what do you want me to do?” Darren asked once again.
“Get your amulet back. Warn your bands and any artist under Crimson Crown Music Group to leave. Save yourselves…” Millie said, while they watched Jasper and her spiritual bodies fade away.
With that said, Amelia felt disturbed by all this. It looks like what is going on with Darren is more serious than she thought. Halden fell down to the ground and just laid down to catch his breath. Toby went to sit down by a nearby wall and Amelia followed with him. Darren did not move from his place, but he ended up sitting down on the ground, crossed legged.
They needed the break before they go back to the Night Barista Tower to leave. It was a long hike back to civilization, which Amelia did not seem to mind that no one talked to each other on the way back. The group did not have to fight through so many branches and vines on the trek back. Her mind wrestled with the decision on how much she should get involved with this. There was a reason Amelia was more stressed about the Rise of Light, but she did not want to drag Toby or anyone else into this.
However, leaving Darren’s group alone with this was something that would plague her conscious if something bad were to happen to them. She could only hope that Darren follows what Millie said, “Save themselves”. When the group arrived back, Amelia paid Halden extra for his service. It is the least she could do because dealing with two spirits' angry energy is a lot for a Necro Mage. Halden took the money and got on his broomstick, then looked at the group one last time before he left.
“I’m going to send you a magic device to communicate with these spirits. This is way too much, and it seems like these spirits are going to be here for a longer purpose.” His eyes directed at Darren. “You figure out whatever you got to do to calm them. It’s not good for spirits to be this unrested. I’ll keep in touch.” Halden said to the group as he rode away into the night sky.
Amelia grabbed hold of her broomstick, which seated at the wall where many mages parked their broomsticks and other magical transportation like normal bikes in the alleyway. Getting on it, Toby went on with his broomstick. She took a deep breath and looked around to see if any outsiders were around.
“You better follow what Halden says. He knows what’s up.” Amelia said, while Darren nodded in response.
Before she and Toby would ride off, they heard people coming down in the alleyway. The group rushed to hide behind the large bushes near the woods. It wasn’t safe to fly if there were Outsiders near by. Amelia saw an older, peach-skinned male in a black business suit walking with a young Latina woman, who looked like… Leticia?
She got confused, “Since when did Leticia decide to come here?!”
The scene looked so uncomfortable as she watched Leticia holding the guy’s arms and locking her lips with his. The man pushed her against the wall, moving one of his hands up her tank top shirt. This whole thing confused Amelia more, knowing that Leticia had a boyfriend. Did Leticia and her boyfriend break up? Suddenly, Darren shot a light spell which blinded the two of them then pushed them apart.
Leticia and the unknown businessman male fell to the ground, because of the spell. Amelia watched Darren head out of the bush, pointing his wand at them. Suddenly, she felt an enormous pit of fear down in her stomach when she felt Darren’s aura was getting into a dark place. This other power he had, which immediately frightened Amelia, prompted her to bolt out of the bush. She pulled Darren’s arm back before he could cast another spell on the unknown, peach-skinned guy.
“Darren, stop!” She called him, but then he redirected his wand towards Leticia.
“Explain yourselves, Leticia. What the hell?! Are you cheating on Trenton? I knew you were always crazy, but this…?” Darren almost poked Leticia with his wand.
Pushing him aside to the ground, Amelia yelled, “Enough, Darren! You’re going to get someone killed!”
“Amelia, I want to know what’s going on. Why is Leticia here with a man that’s old enough to be her dad?!” He still pointed his wand at Leticia and the man.
The man dusted himself off to clean up his suit and spat, “I don’t know what’s going on, but this deal is off, Miss. Hernandez!”
Amelia’s head was spinning. There were too many things going at once, but she knew one thing: That man, the Outsider, can not leave here, knowing that three magical beings are in an alleyway and could snitch them out! She pulled out her wand to subdue the man quickly by the use of a spell. Amelia cast a memory spell on the businessman to change his memory about this event. Then, she directed Toby to transport the man away from the alley.
The group could not use magic in situations like this, but for this case, it was necessary! With Toby’s portal magic, he dragged the man into the portal as the businessman disappeared into the portal, hopefully to safety away from here. Now the issue solved, Amelia and Toby focused their attention back to the situation with Darren and Leticia.
“Explain yourself, Leticia. Give me one reason I shouldn’t tell Trenton about what you did.” Darren demanded answers from Leticia, who glared back at him.
“Because I’m not Leticia….” She responded as her skin melted away into something else.
'Leticia'’s tanned skin melted away into a pale skin tone. Her long, brown, straight hair morphed into wavy, red hair. The woman’s eyes turned from brown to green, while her entire body changed from a nineteen-year-old, young woman to an older woman in her forties. Amelia’s eyes and mouth went wide as she could not believe this sight. She heard Darren’s voice after the transformation was over, “Rose…”
