Chapter 1: New School

Chapter 1: New School

Nov 19, 2020

I wake up to the sounds of screaming, yelling, and crying (The crying being mainly my younger sister). My older sister Josephine comes tiptoeing into my room carrying my 5-year-old sister Julie in her arms.

"I hope I didn't wake you." Josephine says quietly.

"Oh no! Don't worry, I was already awake." I told her.

"Josi, what's happening?" asked Julie. Josephine and I gave each other a look, a look that said, should we tell her? She's only five. I nodded at her. Even if Julie is only five, she needs to know why there is so much screaming and yelling going on. I grabbed my calendar and marked it off for today. The reason that I am marking off a calendar instead of telling Julie why there is so much screaming and yelling is that Josephine and I have had this calendar since she was 13 and I was 10. Julie was still in mom's belly so, she couldn't make it with us. Josi and I started this calendar on mom and dad's third fight that week. We would mark off the day and the number of fights that week. At the end of the month, we would count how many fights there were that month.

"Julie, I know that this might seem shocking to you, but mommy and daddy aren't getting along very well anymore." answered Josephine.

"Bu-but that doesn't make any sense." Julie replied. She started sniffling we saw little tears start forming in her eyes, and then it happened, a full-blown meltdown. Josi starts rubbing her on the back, which always helps her calm down. Josi carries Julie back to her room, and then I start getting ready for school. I change out of my silky nightgown and into my white school uniform with my favorite black skirt to go with it. I slide on a black headband over my long dark brown hair, and then I put on my lilac glasses. I run down the marbled stairs of my house and wait for Josi and Julie at the door. About three minutes later, Josi and Julie are also moving down the stairs. Since Josi is now 16, she decides to drive me to school. Josi and I sit in the front seats while Julie sits in the back.  Julie is normally somewhat well-behaved, so we let her sit in the back by herself.

" Josi," Julie says very playfully.

"Yes Julie?" answers Josephine while driving to Julie's Elementary school.

"I don't want to go to school today, can I come with you?" Julie asks.

" No, Julie you can't come to school with me today." answers Josi.

"Okay, fine." replies Julie. This is what I meant by Julie is pretty well behaved. If she asks for something and doesn't get it she doesn't keep asking as some people do. Josephine finally gets Julie to school, and because our school is so close to her's we get to our school only about five minutes after Julie gets into her school.
