*3 NEW LINKS ESTABLISHED*
[TWIN OF THE LIGHTNING DRAGON]
[SECOND WIND]
[DIVINE SEVER]
“Link activate: Slip,” Cade stated once more. Once safely in the Spirit Realm, he tapped each of the familiar floating purple bars and read the descriptions for each. His eyes widened. No way… I guess their love really did give me power. Cade read the last one. I don’t know if I’m ready for that kind of responsibility. And I know I’m not worthy of that kind of power. Not even Dan has that kind of ability.
“You are ready. And I trust you will use the power well.”
Cade heard a familiar voice say but when he turned to face its source, all he found was a single knife on the ground. The blade was pretty short as was the handle. It ended in a circle just big enough for one of his fingers to slip through. A kunai… As he approached the weapon a new bar popped up.
[HOLY SEVER]
Cade touched the bar.
[EQUIP?] [YES] [NO]
Cade tapped [YES] and the knife vanished from the ground. Alright then, let’s see what we can do now. Cade finally reappeared in front of Shalek, who had been fuming that his attempt at manipulating Cade had apparently been foiled. He felt a weight on his hip and looked down. The kunai was now clipped onto his belt. “You think you’re powerful? You think your so called friends will help you? They won’t. No one will come and save you. You’re not worth it,” Shalek tried to taunt. “You’re right about one thing,” Cade stated with an heir of cockiness. “My friends aren’t coming to save me. But that’s because they have already given me what I need to beat the likes of you.” Cade took a deep breath and exhaled into his hands. As he felt the air hit his hands he stated calmly, “Link activate: Second Wind.” The air around Cade started to swirl, slowly at first but then it picked up. As it moved around and through him, he felt his wounds start to close and heal. He felt his fatigue wash away and felt renewed. Then he quickly hunched over as he felt something on his back. It started off light but quickly became a heavy weight on his shoulder blades. He glanced back as he got accustomed to the weight and stood straight. Wings! I have wings! Sure enough two large wings made of air had formed on his back. Little currents shaped like feathers arranged themselves and vibrated as they moved. He felt them as though they were an extension of his own body. I probably shouldn’t test my luck and try to fly just yet. I could mess up and make myself vulnerable to Shalek. Yeah, let’s stay grounded for now. Oh but when I get some free time, I am definitely taking these puppies for a spin.
Cade was happy. He was excited. He was always excited when he got new links. They were like literal power ups in the games he played. But in real life. He thought they were cool.
“So what?” Shalek scoffed. “You supposed to be some angel now?” Cade looked up. “Nope, that would be Dan. I’m just a guy borrowing some power.” “Well let’s just see how well you can use that stolen power.” Shalek sent forth a dark claw of slashes towards Cade. Cade bent his knees and steadied himself. He reared his wings back and flapped them forward as hard as he could. He sent himself flying (literally) backwards while a torrent of wind gust forward, dispersing the slashes and knocking Shalek back a few yards. Shalek sneered. “Let’s see how long you can keep that up!” Shalek released wave after wave of slashes towards Cade. Cade just kept flapping his new wind wings to rebut them. He started getting better and better. He started playing around with intensity and direction and was able to not only keep the slashes away, but keep Shalek at a distance. I could actually win this!
This isn’t working. Those wings are trouble. Damn. Well then, I guess I better get back in close.
Shalek gathered a huge amount of dark spirit energy around him. “Blow THIS away you annoying little pest!” Shalek formed two large clawed paws and extended them to Cade. Cade tried to blow them back but Shalek just moved them around the wind. Cade had to dodge. And he had to be quick. Shalek moved these long, shadowy arms with ease, the length apparently not encumbering his movements at all. As much as they had helped before, his new wings were kind of slowing him down now. They were still quite heavy and he definitely didn’t have anything close to Brandon’s strength. Well, let’s see what this one’s about, he thought as he doffed the wings. Wind stopped swirling around him and he felt considerably lighter. “Giving up little kitty? Realizing now that I have too much power and too many ways to kill you for you to have a chance?” “Wow, you really are ambitious aren’t you? Well, we’ll see who has the real power now. Link activate: Twin of the Lightning Dragon!” Cade exclaimed with the most confidence and excitement he’d displayed this whole evening. The two stood there for a second expectantly. Then another. And another. Nothing happened. Shalek laughed. “Oh wow. That was embarrassing even for me. Whew. Let me go ahead and end you now so you don’t have to sulk in this humiliation.” Shalek leaped forward.
I don’t understand. I felt the link activate. I felt the power. What’s happening?
Just then, Cade heard a rumbling coming in from above. It started low but grew quickly. And just before Shalek reached him…
BOOM!
