When they finished eating, they were silent for a few minutes, satisfied since they had been able to eat well. Suddenly, a loud tremor followed by a deafening sound startled them. All the walls of the inn vibrated, and dust fell from the ceiling. The young man ordered Nayla to stand under the table and went to look out the window, but a dense cloud of dust obscured the street.
They waited for a long time, until the visibility of the outside was regained. As the sun had been setting for some time, it was dark outside and they could see nothing.
"We'd better turn off the lights," said the boy. “Nayla, let's go to the rooms. It is too late and we should sleep”, she said, hiding that he was worried.
She came out from under the table and followed him upstairs. They went to a double room that had the shutters closed. She lay quietly on the bed next to the window, while the boy closed the door after turning on a light in the room. She took a suitcase out of the closet and pulled out a girl's pajamas. He helped Nayla undress and changed her clothes.
“Still lucky our stuff was still here”, he said as he took off his pajamas for him. “The truth is that always going with the same clothes is extremely uncomfortable. Also, I would take a shower, since we already stink a lot”, he laughed to himself as he put on his sleeping clothes.
Once changed, he pulled Nayla down and covered her with the blankets. He sat down next to her, on the same bed, and caressed her head. She could not process those displays of affection.
"Well," he said as he handed her the teddy bear that had been left on the floor, "today, and without any precedent, I will tell you a story, okay?", he winked. “So, I will tell you my favorite story from when I was little. Many years ago, it was said that rivers carried the desires of children, and that they reached the sea, where, if they had behaved well, they were fulfilled. Otherwise, they would climb into the clouds and fall in the form of rain so that other boys and girls could catch them and dream about them. Well, it turns out that there was a boy whose dog had died, and since it was his best friend, he really wanted it to come back. He wanted it so much that he decided to escort his desire downstream, all the way to the sea!”, the boy explained it very happy, remembering how he lived it when he was little, forgetting for a few moments everything that had happened. “The boy spent many days trying to make a raft, but he was quite small, and could not move those heavy logs all by himself. One day, seeing the boy so discouraged, an old man approached him. "What's wrong with you boy?" He asked. Nayla was amused by the young man's voice imitating the old man and smiled amusedly. “The boy replied that he wanted to go downstream to follow his desire to make sure that it would fulfill. He also told him how much he loved his dog. The old man, moved, decided to leave him his boat, on the condition that he had to bring him some sea water, as he had never seen it, since he had always wanted it as a child. The boy, incredibly happy, accepted, and bid farewell to the old man with his hand as he walked away downstream, eager to…”
Nayla began to fall asleep. She could hear the boy talking, but she could no longer listen to him. Her mind wandered for a long time and she finally fell asleep, not realizing that he had already finished the story.
