The Color Red

2~Victor~

2~Victor~

Nov 29, 2020

"Victor, take Charles with you!" My father yelled from across the corridor.

"Dad!" I whined. "I'm 17 about to turn 18, don't you think it's time to let me be on my own?" My father peeked his head out so it was in sight.

"Victor—"

"I'll be safe, Dad. Only for 30 minutes, let me just cruise around. I'll be surrounded by people, they would dare not to touch me." My dad adjusted his coat with a sigh.

"Thirty minutes is all you get, be back no later. Don't talk to any commoners, and if I see any small blemish on you—"

"Alright, thank you." I ran to the front which I was scolded for by Charles.

"Victor." I turned my head to Charles who looked very unpleased with me. "Where is it?" He questioned.

"Where is what?"

"Your medal. You can't go walking around the streets without a medal." I fished in my breast pocket for a shiny gold medal with my name engraved in it. "Let me put it on." Charles sighed then pinned it to my chest. "Hurry along, Young Victor. Don't waste your time here." Charles shooed me away with his tan hands making me smile and run out of the building.

A small black car took me to the foot of the hill where it would wait for my arrival. As soon as I set foot into the village people began to make way for me and started to whisper. It was a very normal reaction when I came present to anyone.

"Hello!" I waved to anyone who dared to smile back at me. I was in no way intimidating, but my father was. People cowered while he passed by, it was comical. He was such a nice man, but everyone seemed afraid of him.

Just as I was in thought, I bumped into an obstacle, a boy to be exact. He rubbed his head like he ran into a wall and then started to apologize.

"You're—"

"Prince Victor, nice to meet you." I extended my arm to him which he flinched at. It was a weird gesture, but I decided to ignore it.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going," he stuttered.

"No worries." I grabbed his pale hand to shake which he did not like. This boy found my whole presence uncomfortable. I hadn't done anything to scare him, yet he was terrified of me. "What's your name?"

"Mykie," he whispered.

"Mykie, what an interesting name. What's got you walking around the streets so aimlessly?" I slung my arm over this commoner's shoulder like he was my friend. The others sure did find this entertaining because they dropped everything.

"I'm looking for an apartment," he whispered while pushing my arm off of him.

"An apartment? Where're your parents?"

"Resting," Mykie said bitterly.

"So you're out on your own?" The small boy nodded. "Most apartments here are inexpensive, you could very easily spend around 600 dollars for one." I looked down at Mykie who slowly nodded in response. "Say, Mykie, we should be friends."

"Friends?" He asked as if the word was completely foreign to him.

"Yeah! Friends!"

"I'm not too sure about that. Not to sound rude, but I don't think a royal like you should spend time with a lowlife like me."

"A lowlife? Nonsense!" I laughed while we continued to walk around the strip. "You must be new here, so I can be your first friend," I smiled. I wasn't quite sure why I wanted to be friends with this boy, but I did. It must have been because he looked so innocent and scared. To think a boy my age would cower to me, it sounded weird.

"I'm not—"

"Say, Mykie. Why don't I help you look for an apartment? I can get you a discount—"

"That's okay," he cut me off. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. It's just, I rather live like a normal commoner and not have an advantage." I raised my blue eyebrows. If this were any other person, they would accept right away. Being friends with a royal and being treated special sounds marvelous.

"Wow, you are so interesting." I laughed. "Okay, I won't help you find an apartment." I stood right in front of Mykie making him stop in his tracks. "But that means we have to be friends."

"With all due respect, bribing a friendship is not going to go well." Mykie bowed as he apologized. "I should get going, pardon me, Prince Victor." The green-haired boy walked past me leaving me smiling.

"What hotel are you staying in?" I asked before he could go too far.

"The one just down there." He pointed past me, not being very exact. He really didn't want me to bother him. Though, that just made things more interesting.

"Okay, I'll see you later." Mykie looked at me with pure confusion written on his face.

"Sure?" He said before quickly walking away from me. Yeah, we should be friends. I turned on the balls of my feet walking back to the hill where my ride was waiting.

"Back so soon?" My driver asked.

"Yeah." I smiled to myself while the orange-haired man began to work his way back up the hill.

"You weren't gone for long. Was there something displeasing? Was it not interesting?" My father asked as I waltzed over to him. My dad was becoming an old man. All his wrinkles were showing and the blue in his hair was fading ever so slightly. He looked like a king and it wasn't because of his hair. My father always appeared to be powerful and it was something that I wished to look like.

"Quite the contrary. I found someone very interesting." I sat down on my black leather couch and crossed my arms.

"Someone?" My dad clicked his tongue. "I specifically told you not to talk to any commoners."

"Oh, but Dad, he was such an interesting boy. We bumped into each other and he was absolutely scared of me even though I didn't do anything. He's new here, apparently."

"Victor, that boy is just going to use you. It's not wise in wasting time on him." I shook my finger at my dad who sat on the chair across from me.

"But that's the thing, he wasn't going to use me. Mykie cowered in fear when we ran into each other and I seemed to make him very uncomfortable. He declined my request of being friends and he wouldn't let me help him look for an apartment. All because I was a prince and he didn't want special treatment. Isn't that so interesting?" I was smiling brightly which I had to calm myself down because I must have looked weird.

"That certainly is odd. I still don't think you should be conversing with commoners. He may seem vulnerable, but he could be a whole different person."

"Oh, he could do no harm. You should have seen the boy. I doubt he had a bad bone in his body." I stood up from the sofa and smiled. "I will be heading off to my room now." My dad simply nodded his head and watched me leave the room.

"Interesting boy?" Charles asked me while I walked down the corridor.

"Very. He's odd." Charles catered to my every need. He was an Orange but acted more like a Purple than anything. He was assigned as my guard despite the color of his hair, but that was because my father and he had been friends since they were little so my dad trusted him. "Wouldn't even let me help him look for an apartment. If I'd gone with him the landlord would surely give him a discount. He was also walking around by himself. He said his parents were resting so it was up to him to look for a place to stay. Isn't that weird? Charles, don't you think he's weird?" I stopped and looked at Charles who raised his eyebrows.

"I think you're reading too much into this. He is just a regular boy who is intimidated by your power. He got put on the spot and got nervous. Anyone would do that." I shook my head.

"Oh, Charles. He was just different. You just don't understand." Charles bowed before leaving me in my room. "Mykie," I softly whispered. "Such an odd boy."

Awe! He's so excited to have found a friend. I wonder if he's ever really spoken to a commoner before. How did Mykie get a green wig? I would think that wigs would be frowned upon if hair color is so important. People could pretend to be someone they aren't "supposed" to be
