"I think it will be fine. They can say whatever they want about me, and if they want to get to you, they have to go through me first." I stared at the prince who smiled ever so cheekily. His cheeks tinted pink with his eyes and nose wrinkled. He said it as if he could really protect me. It was sweet and all, but I couldn't be sure they would listen.
"Thanks... Victor." I didn't want to put the teen down, so I thanked him.
"Well, of course." The teen smiled and continued to look around the small apartment. I didn't care that only old people lived there, I had a place to stay and that is all that mattered.
"Why do you come down here? Surely it isn't that entertaining compared to a big estate." I made myself comfortable on the red loveseat that was placed awkwardly in the room.
"I wanted to leave my home for a while, it's a good thing I did. I got to meet my first real friend." The Blue said with complete confidence. I would never be able to say something like that, yet the teen didn't hesitate while speaking.
"I don't know how good that is," I said more as a joke than anything.
"It's very good."
We talked for quite some time until the prince had to return back to his palace. I walked the teen out of my apartment complex, meeting up with one of my landlords.
"How did you manage to befriend a Blue?" The old orange hair lady asked.
"I'm not quite sure, to be honest." The woman patted her floral maxi skirt with a crooked smile.
"Out of my 87 years of living, I would have never thought of talking to a Blue. Man, I couldn't even imagine having a Blue come over to my living complex. You are an extremely lucky boy." Maybe lucky wasn't the right word because luck was not the first thing that came to mind.
Having a royal talk to you is amazing, of course. Having a royal talk to you but they also know your deepest darkest secret is another thing. He might be my friend, but that didn't mean he wouldn't use my color against me.
"I guess I am pretty lucky," I whispered to the Orange lady. She bid me a farewell as I worked my way back to my new found home. It wasn't kid-friendly by any means, but it was somewhere to stay. I didn't mind the fact that no children lived in the complex. All of the elders were very nice... but that's probably because they were old. All old people are nice.
My stomach growled making me groan. While staying at the hotel, Mandy always snuck in food for me (I think she pitied me, so she gave me food). But I was living on my own meaning no Mandy and no source of food.
Being a...Green... I was a mere commoner. I had yet to apply as a resident meaning I had no source of income. I hadn't worried about food money because of my source, but being alone made me think of all the responsibilities I held.
I was picking at my money source since I wanted to reserve it, but it cost me a meal.
"Maybe I should get a little something," I mumbled aloud. "A small sandwich for lunch. I can save the rest for dinner. I should get by."
I walked down the streets looking at the vendors. Each presented a cheery orange-haired merchant who displayed their goods. I stopped by a shop, which was run by a young girl.
"Well, hello!" She said overly cherry. I almost wanted to cover my eyes from the big smile she was beaming at me. "What's a fine young fella doing here?"
"I was just coming for a little something to eat," I told the freckled girl while scanning the display case.
"You came to the right place!" The teen began to list all of the different options I had even though I didn't ask. I'm glad I'm acting as a Green because being an Orange seems exhausting. "Say, aren't you the boy that has been seen with the young royal?" Kylie (said the name tag) examined me thoroughly before packing my sandwich into a bag.
"The young royal?" I attempted to play it off as if that was a wild conspiracy, though my acting skills were very poor.
"Yes, yes. I think I've seen you two together, am I right?" I wasn't fond of saying yes because I didn't know what was to come. It seemed as if more positives came out of agreeing than not, but I didn't want to be known as the boy who is friends with the prince.
"Oí! Kylie! Stop interrogating the boy and give him his food." A masculine voice called from a distance.
"Oh, geez. Fine." I paid the girl and quickly left so I was out of plain sight.
"Maybe I shouldn't go out with... Victor." I said while talking to myself. "It seems it will only cause drama between the two of us."
As figured, the prince knocked on my door with a big grin.
"Hello!" He chimed as I reluctantly let him inside. "I love that expression you are giving me. Very go away I hate you-esque." The prince let out a chuckle while gazing around my apartment like it was the first time seeing it. "How do you like it?"
"It's fine," I said, assuming we were talking about the apartment. "It smells like old people, but other than that it's fine." That earned a chuckle from the royal who turned to look at me.
"Let's go explore." I was going to decline, but as soon as I showed my mixed emotions, the prince put a hand up to my face. "You can't disobey your prince, now let's go." The tan teen grabbed my wrist and began to pull me out of my own apartment.
"Well, technically you are not my prince." I blurted, which Victor glared at me for.
"Oh, whatever. You have a home here, therefore I am your prince." As soon as we reached the center of the town, Victor let go of his death grip on my wrist.
"There isn't much exploring to do," I said while anxiously scanning my surroundings.
Victor stuck out like a sore thumb. He stood quite tall and had the bright blue hair you expect all royals to have. That alone made him the focal point of many people. On top of that would be his clothing style. It must be a royal thing to wear fancy suits or blazers on every occasion. Oh, and along with the shimmering medals he wore on his chest. Compared to the average person he sure was noticeable.
"You look like someone is going to kill you, are you alright?" Victor obviously meant it as a joke but it came out more nervous than anything.
"Well, it's just a little awkward being next to you. I don't want people to look at me weirdly." I spoke softly making Victor sigh.
"Boy, I thought something serious happened during the time I left you. Don't worry about what other people think. It's not a big deal. Plus what's the harm?" I couldn't exactly think of a negative, so I simply agreed. "They are just jealous that a mere Green is hanging out with the devilishly handsome prince."
"Right, of course." Victor smiled brightly, then began to pull me forward to a small shop filled with plants.
"Aren't plants amazing?" Victor astounded.
"What do you mean? They're just buried in dirt and grown from it."
"Oh, you don't get it." Victor shooed my ignorant words while the lady who ran the shop greeted us. "It's more than just growing. It's a chemical change."
"A chemical change? Why are we talking about biology?" I followed Victor around the small glassed shop taking in each flower.
"Be quiet for a second." The Blue put his hand up to my lips preventing me from talking. "If I were a plant, I would want someone to talk to me all the time."
"Is it true that plants grow when you talk to them?"
"I don't know. But that doesn't matter. It's the concept of you sitting there and doing absolutely nothing but someone still wanting to talk to you." The prince smiled a boyish smile and began to view all the plants the lady had. I followed him along feeling very awkward if I just stood there waiting for him. "Thank you!" Victor called the orange who thanked him for coming. "It's sad that she didn't grow them yet she is selling them." Victor glanced back at the lady who had sat on a stool and began to pull out her phone. "She has no love for them. She's just selling them so she can have some money. A Yellow grew it with their own hands, yet they can't sell what they made. Don't you think it's sad?"
"I guess it is. Then again, how else is she going to make money? She isn't a Green, so she can't make money by sitting at home. She is an Orange, it's in her blood to sell. If she doesn't have anything to sell, then what's the point of being Orange?" Victor placed his hand on his chin like he was in deep thought.
"This might have been one of the longest times you have ever spoken to me. I feel like you're very intimidated by me so that's why you don't talk."
"That's because I am. I'll make it clear that you are a Blue and you also know my biggest secret." I whispered as Victor scanned the area.
"I guess so, but we are friends and I would never tell anyone your secret."
"Thanks."
