Athos was known throughout numerous realms of being one of the most fierce and unforgiving demons to ever have existed. He had captured countless tormented souls and continued to torture them as he saw fit.
He was a man who had struck fear in the eyes of his enemies. And even his own subjects. He had seen every wonder the mortal world had to offer. Or, at least he thought he had.
For a long, blissful, moment he simply stood quiet. Listening.
He did not have a single clue where the angelic voice was coming from. Certainly not here, in the pits of the Underworld. But what kind of human had the ability to sing in such a way?
Athos quickly gathered his things and headed out of his chambers.
"Sire, where are you going?"
"I must find the owner who possesses that magnificent voice."
"That voice sounds like it's coming from the human realm."
"Then that's where I am going."
"But, Sire. You have not entered the mortal realm in over three thousand years."
Athos stopped short. "That is because nothing eventful has happened there since."
"When will you be back?" Luther questioned.
"I don't know."
"What should I tell your subjects?"
"You were once creative as a human, Luther, make something up," Athos hissed.
"Right, Sire. And, what about Lavinia?"
His eyes glowed a deep red. "Tell that demoness that if she causes an issue one more time I will tie her to the bed and make her beg me to end her existence. Are we clear?"
Luther's eyes widened, without further question.
"Quite."
Athos left his castle without looking back.
. . .
Athos followed the sound of the voice until it brought him to an Estate. He hid amongst the trees and bushes and listened. It was then he saw the young girl staring up at the moon, singing to herself.
He was so taken back by the girl's beauty, he wasn't even certain if she was real. Her skin was as pale as ivory. Her lips- full and red as blood. Her hair was as black as the raven's wings. She was enchanting. And, so completely unaware of the world around her.
Her eyes were closed as she continued to sing. Athos moved closer to get a better look at the girl.
"Who is there?" she called out.
Athos stopped. He watched her look around, only to find nothing. For he had stayed absolutely quiet.
"Mm. I could have sworn I heard someone," Ora said to herself.
The girl turned her attention to the little bird who sat beside her on the bench.
"Oh, Cordelia, I wish the night lasted longer than just a few hours."
"Is it because of your eyes, My Lady?"
Athos wore a look of confusion. Was she talking to birds? More importantly, what was wrong with her eyes?
From where he could see, the young girl had the most breathtaking eyes he had ever seen on a human. The icy shade of blue. A simple look from them could pierce any man's heart.
"Yes," the girl answered. "Mother and Father do not know this double life I live. Nor, do they know about you."
"As always, your secret is safe with me," chirped the bird.
"Thank you, Cordelia. I wish every person was like you. I think if Mother and Father were to find out about these nightly escapades of mine they would surely lock me away."
Hearing the girl laugh was the sweetest sound Athos had ever heard. Second to her singing, of course. Even though the girl had ceased singing, he was more than content by just gazing at her angelic features.
Hours passed like minutes and soon the sun was peeking above the horizon.
Cordelia swiftly warned the girl.
"My Lady, hurry the sun is approaching fast!"
She quickly got up. "Oh no," she gasped. "Time has slipped away from me. I need to get back before I lose my sight."
Athos had so many questions and, apparently, not enough time for answers. He watched the girl struggle to make her way back to the house.
"Why is she tripping over her own feet?" he asked himself
"Why is she tripping over her own feet?" he asked himself. The girl was just fine a second ago. Why all of a sudden was she now struggling?
Ora found her way to the stairs, her vision was already beginning to blur. Just before she reached the top of the staircase, she lost her balance and felt herself falling backwards.
