He persisted for an hour before he finally quit. He slumped against the wall.
What am I going to do? Am I really going to die here?
He erased his last thought think about what he could do to escape. His thoughts were disrupted by another visitor. “River?” A young woman’s voice comes from a hooded figure. “Ann? Oh Ann! Is that really you?” She quickly makes her way over to him untying his ropes. River jumps and hugs her she promptly removes her hood. She and him were childhood friends, long ago they’d both snuck away from their kingdoms and found each other in the woods. Ann was Marie’s younger sister. Ann was about 3 years younger than him, but despite that they have always gotten along quite well. “I’m going to get you out of here. Ok?” She told him, all he did was nod. She slips her hood back on, grabs his hand and starts running. As they leave he saw the two guards lay on the ground, knocked out. Though he was curious he figured he would ask her how she managed that, later. They got through the palace as quick and quietly as possible. Once they reached the front gates she had to leave. “It’ll just be you now, I can’t go with.” He turned to her, “Why?” She rolled her eyes, “I can’t get caught betraying- damn it. We don’t have time for this! Just make it out alive.” She hissed and then scurried away. He stepped out as quick as he could and made it almost to the safety of the woods until he was getting shot at. He dodged and began to sprint, using the last of his energy. He ran through the woods for what he felt was hours, until he came to find a small wooden house.
Just a question/ piece of constructive criticism, how was he able to untie the ropes on his hands and feet? I feel like making that a little clearer would improve the story!
