This is by far my weirdest dream, I must have been reading to many novels recently. I mean seriously, a white space, with a middle-aged lady giving off a strange golden aura, how cliché can i get with this kind of setting?
"Yes, it is very cliché but frankly quite effective too." Stated the middle-aged woman.
"Uhm, what?" That's super weird, I don't think I said anything? perhaps my face gave off some weird look?
"It didn't give off a weird look, I just heard what you were thinking. My apologies, I'm unused to using this form. But first introductions, I've been watching over you for a long time, my name is Ategenos. The closest description to me would be the goddess of reincarnation. Though I rule over a different realm than the one you come from." Ategenos said, taking a sip from the cup in her hand. "Would you care for some coffee whilst you are here?"
"A cup of coffee sounds amazing..." My eyes widen as it sinks in what she just said. "Wait if you are a goddess, then how am I here in front of you?"
"Well you died in your sleep. You didn't really think the human body could handle all the stress in your life with out some sort of consequences did you? Frankly it's impressive you held up as long as you did." I watch as she twirls her finger in front of me and a cup of coffee appears.
"I guess I never really thought about it but it does kind of make sense." I sigh exasperated with myself, "That doesn't really explain why I'm here with you though..." I place my hands on the cup, feeling the warmth soaking into them through the ceramic.
"Well, like I said I've been watching you for awhile. I get bored from time to time and like to people watch is what I think you would call it. People's hobbies and lives are like moving novels for us gods and goddess. We rarely do much beyond watching once we've created worlds, it is extremely boring. Your story though was sad, and ended far to soon. Since I rarely interact with people's reincarnation and just let lesser god's handle it I thought I would step in with yours since I was so disappointed. Of course you can refuse and just have your soul reborn in your old realm without any memories like most people do."
"N-No! Sorry, it's just a lot to take in suddenly!" I realize I haven't touched my coffee and take a large gulp. Trying to take in everything she's told me.
"It's quite alright, I figure I should at least give you a brief idea of the realm i want to reincarnate you in. It's pretty similar to a lot of the fantasy novels on your old planet. It's closer to the realm of gods though so they've actually developed more along the lines of what you would call "magic" instead of the route of science that your old planet did. Plus there are more intelligent life forms on this planet, all fairly similar to humans so they tend to interbreed quite often. I can choose a species different than human to let you reincarnate as, they all have fairly similar abilities magic wise and most live fairly long lives compared to your old planet. The higher your Mana the longer you'll live but that's mostly dependent on you in this realm. I don't want to give to much away though, so what do you think?" Ategenos took another sip of her coffee before setting it down and looking into my eyes.
"Uhm, is it possible to be reincarnated as a feline humanoid or something similar to what our world calls elves? Will I be able to perform magic for sure? Otherwise I don't really have any wants or questions...I think." I rush to answer her, getting a little flushed in the face as I realize how specific my questions are.
"Both of those should be possible, I'll see which one is easiest for you to adapt too. As for magic, yes you should be able to perform magic. Though it is effort based on how far you will progress in that realm. There shouldn't be any issues as long as you work at it." she smiles kindly as she starts to stand up, "you wont regain your memories till your body reaches the age of 4-5, that truly is all I can explain to you though. I do hope your reincarnation is not so sad as your previous one, I'll be watching over you here too." I stand up as she gracefully walks around the table, before giving me a motherly hug.
"Thank you, I appreciate you explaining all this to me and I hope I don't disappoint you with my story" I bow after she releases me from her hug. My vision slowly fading as she smiles at me.
