Rere...
Rere...
"Rere!" Tyler yelled, almost startling me. I looked around and saw him shook me awake with his trembling hands.
"Huh?"
"Please wake up... I felt a lot of brainwave right now."
My half awake mind still processing his words and it was so frustrating to be woken up before the sun has arisen but for my brother, I could endure the tiredness.
"Is it the same in our house before?"
"No, it's... like us."
I blinked. I tried to ask him again and he answered me again.
"It was like us."
Then, my mind suddenly clicked. I remembered the looters are still outside and trying to get in. That means we need to move fast.
"Ty, wake them up. I will see what happen."
As if they could hear them, suddenly the gate below exploded, leaving a giant hole as the looters made its way through the broken metal door.
I froze as a man with black mask over his head, stared at the inside of building with an intense gaze.
"Find them!" A loud voice coming from the man underneath them, began to shout madly. He looked mad with his bloodshot eyes gazed around the building, trying to find something. Us.
"Don't be loud, it's annoying."
This time a woman's voice could be heard and sure enough, another masked person appeared through the broken gate. She looked pissed judging by the sound of her voice.
"They dare to do that to us! Of course, I—"
"Oh, shut up with your nonsense. They're trying to escape, not attack us. Based on your appearance, I would've run at the sight of you."
"Ehhh..." the man's voice sounded dejected.
The masked woman put her hand on his shoulder and telling him to calm down.
"Besides, we need their supplies and manpower to fight against the army. They have already enough people gathered on their side and trying to expand their influence with their stupid ideology."
"I guess so."
"Need I remind you, this company had already escaped and we need everything we can get for our sister. Did you forget?"
She took the lead and shouted from the frontline with a loud and booming voice.
"Find anyone here, regardless their current state and bring them to us."
The looters ran through the entrance of the building at her command which was now full of the sound of weapon clattering against the floor and snickering. Dozens of people in a mask, covering their faces amd breaking down walls and smashing anything in their way with bats and sticks through every zombies that attracted to their sounds.
"This is bad."
I crouched down slowly in the darkness back to the room. I could see that our group readied to continue going upstairs, and faster.
"Let's go."
I could hear the sound of a door blew off its hinges, sending an empty air inside the room and leaving an echo, signaling where they were at the moment.
I put a hand in the air and we took off through the stairs, continued running up until we reached the upper floor without difficulty.
BANG!
I heard the loud bang of the door and I couldn't help but flinch at the sound. Nonetheless, I kept going with the others and skidded to a halt seeing Linda abruptly stopped walking and turned to face us.
Linda looked us up and down with a piercing gaze before saying.
"We almost reach the top floor of this building. Behind this door is the director's room. Always be alert of anything."
Linda said, before turning back and beginning to walk inside the sturdy door.
"Let's go," I signaled to my brother, who had also started walking again.
"Rere..." Tyler replied after a length of time. He looked reluctant as it showed on his face with his thumbs fiddling together.
"I felt it..." I said quietly.
"What?" I shook him softly. He opened his mouth but then closed it again.
"You mean... them?" He nodded.
"Where?"
I looked at him with my round eyes and he pointed below. The little gesture making the only sounds being Linda and Andrew's shoes on the floor, stopped their movement.
"What is it?"
"I think there's a secret room below the director's room." She looked hard at me and I began to sweat a little under her intense stare.
"Did Tyler told you? Then we need to—" Linda suddenly froze and her eyes started scanning behind the door.
"What is it, Linda?" Andrew, which only listened to us before started to talk. He grew worried about our situation but held himself until it was necesary for him to said a word. It turns out his intuition is right.
"It's too quiet. I didn't hear anything, like everything vanished all at once. We need to move." She whispered back, trudging under the darkness with the help of a flashlight.
Andrew noticed her, followed behind with us as the last one to watch our back. Silence descended upon us which like a dreadful malice waiting to strike.
Clank!
"They're almost here." Tyler said, grabbing my hand and breaking into a run.
This day are the one we would remember. A secret which the director hides without shame, a sin he left behind without remorse and a life he wasted away without mercy. It was one we would not forget.
