Their anniversary was today. She had proposed to him on this day exactly ten years ago. She knew it was irrational, and that he was dead but she wanted to tell him about her new boyfriend. He had always told her if he ever died that he wanted her to live life to the fullest, and finally, after nine years of him being dead, she had started dating again.
--
She was visiting his grave for the first time in weeks. She had brought his favourite flowers.
--
Had the gravestone always had her late husband’s death date two months in the future?
--
It was two months later when she visited again. The day that was written on his gravestone. The date was here at last, but the grave wasn’t supposed to say her name?!
She felt something grab her foot. It felt like it was dragging her down. She couldn’t breathe.
--
He was at last free. After ten years of waiting, he could at last breathe. If he hadn’t missed his shot, and his wife hadn’t managed to get lucky ... well, it wouldn’t have taken so long to put his wife in the ground.
