Believe it or not, I never actually noticed (and therefore, came up with the lines for the last two panels) that neither Zubat nor Koffing actually have any arms, and therefore would have no easy way to steal your partner's Relic Fragment just like they do in the games...until I was in the middle of drawing this very comic! The original joke was going to have the last two panels go like this:
Koffing: After all, there's like a 9/10 chance that they would have been two boys instead.
Koffing: And besides, it's not like anyone ever discriminates based on gender in this world, no!
Zubat: Oh yeah, good point!
Since that was already feeling both sexist and not sexist at the same time (weird, I know), I'm glad that I got to replace it with something that was actually funnier. Still, though, it's quite interesting since that statement is both correct and incorrect at the same time. Nobody ever treats the hero and their partner differently no matter what their genders are, but mostly because you can (for the most part) choose all that yourself as the player. As for the NPCs, whose genders are already set, on the other hand? ...I maaaaaay see a little something there. A bit too subtle to really notice for the most part, though.
A 4-panel funny comic series based off of my observations of the story and/or gameplay of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky for the Nintendo DS. Featuring my characters, Amy the Jigglypuff and Chikorita as placeholders for the hero and the partner!
