The Color Red

13~Victor~

13~Victor~

Dec 11, 2020

I enjoyed my time with Mykie. I always enjoyed my time with him. Yet, the more I stayed, the more I realized that something was different. He was so special to me and made me feel like a regular teen. But it was more than that. Because every time he laughed or made fun of me the feeling of excitement would bubble up in my chest. It made me nervous, happy, and other emotions I couldn't explain. I just didn't know why I felt that way.

"Charles," I called over my guard, who was fixing his tie.

"Yes?" I told him to sit down which concerned him.

"I've had something on my mind for quite some time. And I have the need to tell someone."

"Wouldn't that person be your father?" He questioned.

"Presumably, but I don't think I can tell him." It wasn't as if I was ashamed, I just needed another person's thoughts before leaning on my family.

"What's so important that you can't even tell your—" Charles stopped then sighed. "Does it have something to do with that boy?"

"His name is Mykie," I said with a wrinkle in my brow.

"I will take that as a yes." Charles pursed his lips then nodded. "Did something happen?"

"No, I mean, I don't know," I sighed. "Charles," I whined. "I don't understand. Usually, I'm good with my emotions, but I just don't know what's going on." I stared at my hands as if they were going to tell me something.

"Are you trying to say that you like him?" I looked up at Charles as if that was absurd but ultimately knew that's what it was. "Look, Victor, you might just be going through puppy love. I went through that when I met your father. He saved my life and I thought it was meant to be... but it wasn't. It's an infatuation you developed—"

"But that's not what it is," I whined like a child. "It's different than that. I know it's not a one-time thing. It just feels completely different." I looked at Charles with big eyes. "I don't know what I'm supposed to do," I breathed. "A Blue can never be with anyone other than a Blue. Isn't that evil?" Charles sighed.

"Even if they could, he's a boy. You're supposed to marry a nice blue woman—"

"I know!" I yelled. "I just— I can't see myself without him." I threw my arms up in frustration. "Isn't that weird?" I asked but didn't actually want an answer to it. "I want him to be happy. I want to be happy. I want to be happy with him." I balled my hair into my hand the signed. "What should I do, Charles?"

"Have you told him?" My guard asked, gingerly.

"No," I whispered.

"Maybe you should start with that. I know it seems minuscule, but it's a start. And if you want this to flourish, you should start with the basics." I bit my lip with a nod of my head.

"Okay, I'll try it," I laughed. "I'm a little nervous."

"The prince is nervous? This is new," he teased. "Oh, don't worry. You're the prince, for Christ's sake, there is no way that he doesn't fee something." Charles left me alone, leaving me with an ounce of hope.

I woke up the next morning and looked out of my room to see Charles and my father in a deep conversation. The pair looked beyond upset, and I didn't want to interject. Instead, I went back into my room to get ready.

I was nervous, very nervous. 1000% nervous. But, I was excited. A feeling that was pressing down on my chest was finally going to be released.

I searched my closet for a nice outfit, while everything looked the exact same, I found something different. A navy blue blazer, with matching slacks, pointed navy shoes, and obviously my metals because I always wore them. A maid steamed my outfit while I set my way into a bath that was prepared for me.

I'm not overdoing it. This is how I always get ready. I had to tell myself because I felt like I was doing too much. Nevertheless, I left my room looking at my father and Charles who sat across from one another at the table.

"Oh, Victor," my father started. "I'm glad you are out." Charles glanced at my father with slight anger in his eyes. "I don't think you can—"

"Victor the car is ready for you, go ahead and leave." Charles Intervened making my dad shoot a glare at my guard. I nodded and left, the room breaking out into harsh murmurs.

Charles never defied my father unless there was a good reason. I could only hope it was to let me see Mykie, but I pushed it aside and walked into the sleek black car that always waited for me.

"Victor!" The teen exclaimed when he opened the door for me.

"Why are you so happy?" I asked as he pulled me inside his apartment by my wrist.

"I finally got my citizenship!" He smiled making his soft pale cheeks turn pink.

"I'm so happy for you!" I smiled, almost throwing him into a big hug. Getting citizenship is a really important thing in all kingdoms. It basically says you are legally allowed to stay and you're able to receive income and can partake in kingdom-wide activities. It's actually a pretty big deal.

"I'm glad that it is over with. Sofia kept on nagging me to get it done. She says that I'm her favorite and if she lost me she'll be very upset." Suddenly his happy mood turned sour.

"She's not going to lose you," I told him, hoping it would ease his thoughts. "You have an amazing friend who will do anything to make sure you're safe." Mykie softly laughed then sat down on his couch. "Why are you laughing? Are you implying that I'm not capable of doing so?"

"No." He wagged his finger at me as I walked towards him. "You are the prince, you can do anything, you can make someone do whatever you want, you can get anything you want."

"Oh, yeah?" I questioned as I stood behind Mykie. "I don't know, I guess it depends. I would love to say that I can get a unicorn any time I want, but I don't think I can."

"Why would you want a unicorn? It's the same thing as a regular horse," I sighed.

"No, Mykie, I was just trying to prove something." He gave me a sly smile making me groan. "You are terrible."

"So, what is it that the prince wants? What secret desires does he have?" For a second, I thought he caught on to me.

"Oh, nothing in particular." I sat down next to the boy as he eyed me suspiciously.

"The prince has his secrets," Mykie teased. "What a wonder that is."

It began to grow darker, the sun had set, and I had yet to tell him anything. I had gotten so close to spilling, but I didn't.

"Oh, Victor, come here." The teen grabbed my hand and began to pull me to the balcony. "Look at it. Doesn't it look pretty?" He asked me, still holding my hand. "I wanted to show you it because I thought it looked nice. What do you think?" Mykie spoke in an innocent tone.

"Yeah, it looks nice," I whispered. "Mykie? You want to hear something interesting?" The teen pulled his knees to his chest and stared at me with curiosity.

"Sure," he smiled.

"You said I could get whatever I want because I'm the prince. But I found something that I like and being the prince won't help me get it. Actually, I think being the prince almost ruins it. And if I try to get it, then there is the possibility of it all disappearing in an instant."

"You can always try," Mykie shrugged. "What's the harm? You're a nice guy with good karma. Even if something ruins it, you'll still be able to bounce back from it." Mykie placed his head on his knees with a smile. "Try it." It was almost like he was taunting me. His soft innocent tone made it seem easy when it really wasn't. And the fact that he had no idea was making it harder.

"Oh, God," I groaned. "Mykie, I think, well," I sighed. "Mykie, I like you." He stared at me like it wasn't obvious. "Not as a friend. No, wait, I like you as a friend, but that's not what I am talking about. I'm saying I like you. I really. really, really like you."

"Victor," Mykie said softly. "You know you shouldn't."

"Why?"

"You can't."

"Why?!"

"Because it's wrong, Victor. It's terribly and utterly wrong. You're a Blue. A Blue! You can't love a—" Mykie furrowed his eyebrows as he tried to form words. "I'm a Red, Victor,"

"I will tell you a trillion times if I have to. I don't care that you're a Red. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. You're you, and that's all I care about. If color was such a big deal, do you think I would be sitting here with you?"

"You don't really like me." The teen mumbled under his breath.

"I do, I really do." I scooted closer to Mykie trying to calm his nerves. "Why don't you believe me?"

"Because it seems like a dream. Reds aren't supposed to have happy endings. Their lives are tragic, not some fairy tale."

"Mykie," I whispered. "You are not like other Reds. I know you aren't. You are nicer and more caring. You are completely different compared to other Reds. You shouldn't have a tragic life."

"So you really like me?"

"I mean, if I did all of the math correctly, then yes, I do." I softly nudged Mykie with a smile. "You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to. I know it's kind of weird."

"It's only half weird," Mykie laughed.

"Thanks, that makes me feel a whole lot better," I said sarcastically.

"You know, I kind of like you too," Mykie eventually said.

"You only kind of like me?" I laughed.

"Well, I think I like you."

"Okay, now you're making me feel like your just pitying me."

"I—" Mykie bit his lip, trying to come up with something to say.

"I'm kidding. As I said, you don't have to tell me. You don't even have to like me. But like, I'm the prince. It's kind of odd that you don't. Everyone does."

"Get off your high horse, Prince Victor." Mykie finally relaxed, then placed his head against my arm. "Will you still be my friend? No matter what?"

"Yeah, no matter what." Mykie slowly wrapped his arms around me, making me laugh. I softly placed my lips against his. I didn't know why, but it just felt right. Like I was supposed to do that.

The hours I spent as a kid, dreaming of my first kiss, all lead to that. I wouldn't expect to be sitting in front of a Red, a boy, actually, up until I met Mykie— I didn't think I would ever get my first kiss. There were feelings of exhilaration and fear, but most of all I was happy.

Mykie didn't move away, in fact, his eyes voluntarily closed on their own. I kissed him. I actually kissed him. It was soft and gentle. And it was comforting how he kissed back. Holding on to my wrist, following the pattern of my lips. I could feel the warmth of his breath up against my skin. His lips were so smooth, I was in a trance. I almost didn't want to pull away, but I did. After what felt like hours, we separated.

"Wait, that didn't feel right," I mumbled. "Redo, but this time, take off your wig," Mykie groaned. "Do you regret it?" He didn't answer, he didn't need to answer. He slowly held on to my hand with a small smile. "I don't regret it."

"Good."
