Lucie
“So, where are you from?”
Lucie and Andy are sitting on the deck, in one of the lifeboats, doing nothing but talking. They’d spent hours doing that in the restaurant, and when that had closed they spent more time wondering the deck. She’s not exactly sure how they ended up in the lifeboat, but she doesn’t care. She had only started flirting with Andy to get back at Kevin, but the more time she spends with Andy, the more she genuinely likes him. He’s so different from Kevin, with whom it’s always about him. Andy though seems to care what she has to say. It’s nice to have a real opinion for once.
“New York,” she answers, her head held high. She loves being a New Yorker. Kevin always makes her say Jersey, when asked where she’s from, as that’s where they live, but she was born and raised in the city, and she loves it there.
“Nice,” Andy answers with a low whistle. “I always wanted to live there.”
“It’s the best!” she says suddenly feeling sad. She needs to get back on her mission. Having feelings will only ruin this. It’s only about the revenge. It’s to get the upper hand. Andy, as sweet as he may be, is only as pawn- he’ll never be the king in this game.
“What about you?”
“Tennessee.”
“I thought somewhere in the south,” she says with a wink, “I love a man with an accent.”
She moves in closer to him, and is glad when he moves even closer, almost bridging the small gap between them, smiling devilishly, “Yea, I never heard that one before.”
And like that they are kissing. His hands are in her hair, and hers are attached to the back of his shirt. Everything seems perfect, until she hears a voice calling her name.
“Shit!” she hisses, breaking away. She knows the voice calling her name. It’s her fathers. She’s forgotten she was supposed to have dinner with him earlier. Fuck! If he finds her making out with some guy he’ll never give her the money for her wedding. Worse then that he’ll tell Kevin. She’s going to have to get away, and come up with a good excuse before she has to face her father. She’s sick…no! She looks too healthy for that to be believable.
She’s on her feet now, “I have to go!”
She’s walking away not even caring how it looks to Andy. He’s nothing. But, he’s quicker then she gave him credit for, and is grabbing her wrist before she’s even a foot away.
“What’s going on?” he asks her letting go of her arm. He looks hurt, and Lucie finds herself filling with guilt. Great! She really doesn’t need any of this right now. “Did I do anything wrong?”
She sighs, “No! I just heard saw someone coming this way that I really don’t want to talk to.”
“Oh.” Andy is smiling now. “That all? I know the perfect place we can go where they’ll never find us?”
“Really?” she is smiling slightly. She loves adventure, and even more she wants to make out with Andy some more. She’s having a hard time telling herself that it’s just for revenge. Even more she got her revenge and to go even further could be bad territory. Shed just wants to get back at Kevin, not ruin their relationship. Still…
“Show the way,” she says flourishing her hand forward.
She follows him as he leads them the opposite way to the end of the deck before taking a left, that leads them to an un marked door. The unmarked door leads to thing, long hallway. It’s pitch black in the hall and she doesn’t really want to go further. It reminds her too much of horror movie place. She can just see herself getting slaughtered in there.
“I think that’s good,” she says fighting off a small shudder as the door closes behind her. “Where are we going?”
She doesn’t like being in this dark. She thinks about going back into the deck where at least there she has the moon to see with.
“The cargo bay.”
She looks at Andy incredibly, “the cargo bay?”
“Yea. I came across it earlier today. Right after we lifted anchor. They don’t seem to keep it guarded. It should be the perfect place to hide. There are lights at the end of the hall.”
It does sound perfect to hide from her father. And bedside’s now that Andy has mentioned it she wants to see it. She’d never been in a cargo bay, and even though she doesn’t like how much she’s falling for this boy, it sounds pretty sexy to be alone down there.
“It has lights?” she asks hopefully.
“Yes,” he says, grabbing her hand, “I promise. Plus it’s not that far down the hall. Maybe fifty feet max.”
She swallows, a shudder going down her spine. She needs to get out of this darkness before she starts seeing things next.
“Okay, let’s go.”
