She hadn’t planned on sleeping with Scott. Not really. Yeah, she had thought it might be a possibility, but she hadn’t gone on the day saying, hey, I’m going to fuck my best friend tonight. That is just how the night turned out. She blames the wine.
“Penny for your thoughts,” Scott murmurs into her ear, making her shudder. They have been just lying in his bed for what has to have been hours. She loves the feeling of his arms around her, and even though she’s tried several times to make herself leave, she can’t.
“I want to see how I love spending the night with you,” Scott whispers, kissing her jaw, “but its technically morning now.”
She giggles, turning her head so he can continue to kiss down her neck, but this gives her a clear view of Scott’s alarm clock. 12:10 it says.
“Shit!” she cries sitting up.
“What?”
“Shit!”
That time can’t be right! She cannot have left Neil alone that long. She’s more responsible then that. But as she looks at her own watch she sees it is indeed right. It takes her mere seconds to get to her feet and her underwear on. The rest of her clothes are a little harder as they seem to have gotten scattered all over the room.
“Where’s my left shoe?” she yells, holding her right red-heeled pump up frantically.
“What is going on?” Scott asks again, more forcefully. She is just throwing her dress back on when he grabs her and spins her so they are facing.
“What is wrong?”
She looks at him, her left heel still in her hand. “Neil. I left Neil alone. He thinks I’m just gone to dinner with you.”
Scott laughs, “He’s fine. He’s not a child, Han.”
Hannah sits on his bed heavily. He’s right. She knows this, but she still can’t help it. She doesn’t want anyone thinking she’s irresponsible and then taking him away from her. Her parents had thought she could do it, so she needs to prove them right. And bedside’s Neil’s all she has left.
“I know that, but…”
“No, no buts.”
He takes her face in both of his hands and kisses her hard before she has a chance to argue some more. She places her own hands on top of his and kisses him back.
“I guess, I can stay a few extra minutes,” she says as they fall back onto his bed.
“Really?”
“Mmmhmmm.”
“Scott! Scott!” Hannah sits up in shock. The voice belongs to her brother. “Hannah! Hannah! Get out here now!”
Frantic, she runs to the door and opens it expecting to see her brother covered in blood, or crying hysterically. “What’s wrong?”
“I gotta show you something?”
She frowns. Her brother looks fine. He isn’t bruised, or bleeding. He hasn’t even been crying. “What’s going on?”
“I have to show you something,” he cries, pulling at her arm, “It’s really important.”
“Can’t it wait?” Scott asks from behind her, his hands encircling her waist. He’d thrown on a pair of sweatpants but nothing else she notices. “Like until morning?”
“No!” Neil answers, grabbing Hannah’s hand pulling again. “You have to see this now! You won’t believe your eyes!
