A shape obstructed the the bright afternoon sunlight's path when Eliza opened her eyes. She blinked to see what it was, but a cry escaped her lips when she saw her.
"Oh jeez, don't get so worked up about me being here. It's not like I want to be here, but Nora made me."
Violette was back in her short dress, with bat-like wings sprouting from her back. She looked pissed, but not as pissed as when they first met.
"Why are you here?"
The whole situation was confusing to her. Why was the demon goddess, her enemy, here? She watched as the woman's eyes suddenly shifted to the door.
"We are here because there's a bigger threat upon us than the bickering of you two escalating."
Eliza turned around and saw a slender male standing in the doorway. He was wearing sweats and a loose shirt and his reddish hair and piercing blue eyes reminded her of someone. She couldn't recall who though.
"Who are you?"
The man blinked in confusion and then started laughing. When he had calmed down again, spurred on by the girl's growing sour look, he explained.
"Oh man, I didn't have to answer that question in a long time after shifting. I'm Nora, nice to meet you. Again."
"You're Nora?! But I thought you were a girl!"
The man walked over to his girlfriend still sitting on the window sill. He gave her a soft kiss on her cheek.
"I'm a shapeshifter, meaning I can take any form I desire. Today I felt like presenting myself as a man."
So that's why they called Nora a shapeshifter. She could see the appeal in that.
"Where am I anyway?" She continued next, "And where is Rose?"
The room seemed vaguely familiar, the bedframe a lacquered wood covered in white bedspreads. In the corner sat an elegant chair with too many pillows.
"You're in our sorority house," came from the still open door.
"Belle!"
The blonde hugged her friend tightly, as if she hadn't seen her for years.
"I was so worried, Eliza! After you arrived at Megan and Lily's, we didn't hear anything for days! We contacted Sybil, but she didn't know where you had gone, and neither did Megan or Lily." She then looked up to the two sitting in the window. "And then they showed up with the two of you in their arms."
"We wanted to leave right after," Nora continued, "But then Violette felt an unnatural evil presence in this house. Something that should neither exist in the human world nor in the Underworld."
"What?"
Belle sat down on the edge of the bed.
"It's the President, Eliza. A few days ago she was acting weird. Her voice suddenly changed and it was almost as if someone had taken over her body. She was saying something about the true god of Chaos, Ahriman or something. It creeped me the fuck out."
The girl shivered having to recall the memory.
"Ahriman?"
For some reason Eliza recognized that name from something.
"Wait! I know that name! I've read about him in a book! Something about the goddess Theia and the Twilight of the Gods!"
"Twilight of the Gods?" Belle asked, confused.
"The final battle between good and evil," Nora explained before anyone else could, "Most people know it as Ragnarok."
"That... doesn't sound very pleasant."
"It isn't," Violette said, fidgeting with her too short dress, "If Ahriman takes over this world, not even the Underworld or the Spirit World is safe. Meaning we," She motioned to herself and Nora, "won't be safe either."
"Is that why you're here?"
Slowly the puzzle pieces started to fall into place in Eliza's mind.
The demon goddess nodded. "Yes. The second I felt that immense aura here, we knew we couldn't just go back home again. Nora suggested we team up."
"Team up? As in, you'll fight with us?"
The woman hesistated just for a bit, but then the shapeshifter placed his hand on hers.
"We have to. At least, if we want to continue live our lifes. I promise I'm not as bad as my title or attitude implies."
Eliza sighed.
"Well then, I think we'll be partners from no on then. But no more soul stealing please."
The demon goddess nodded, a small smile appearing on her face. For an instant she looked more human than demon.
"Now, where is Rose?"
