“Hi dad,” Kate said as she walked inside.
“How was Riptide?” Her father asked.
“He was fantastic on the trails!” Kate told him. “He actually wanted to go fast. His heart was into it.”
“That’s great kiddo,” her dad replied. “But-”
“What?” Kate asked nervously.
“I don’t think he’s going to do well on the track. We have so many more promising horses this year. I’ve decided to sell him. I’m having him sent out on consignment next week. You can ride him until then so he stays in shape, but unless something drastically changes, he’s leaving.” He said.
“No! You can’t!” Kate protested.
“I can and I will. Enjoy your remaining time with him but remember he isn’t the only horse in the world.”
Speechless, Kate fled to her room.
