Cletus Buccanen Cobb hated his job most days, but today was a particularly nasty one.

He knew it would probably be at least tolerable after his day off but it was hard for him to count his blessings with things still fresh in his mind. He had no beer after possibly the shittiest work day he’d had all year. He could always smoke some bud but Skeeter wasn’t supposed to be in town again for a bit and his stash was already running low.

After taking a quick shower Cletus, or “Buck” as he was known to anyone who gave a shit, settled down on the couch. He had a sort of nightly session of watching as much TV as possible in order to absorb the characters’ problems and feelings instead of his own. This was done with the aid of booze, bud, or on the rare occasion, some good ol’ magic mushrooms; but whatever the level of sobriety Buck never wanted to think about his own life too much.

Tonight proved to be more difficult, however, as Buck was repeatedly reminded of just how shitty his day at work had been. He felt particularly stuck that night, wondering what his life would be like if he just had another job, or lived in a different town. The events of the day played out in his mind. He had had an issue with some higher ups that finally came to a head and he couldn’t help but go over how he could’ve handled it differently.

He had never been very good about controlling his train of thought of course, so he also had a tendency to spiral. Tonight’s spiral consisted of many worries; his issues with his bosses, his dead end job, his inability to save, his looming problem with substance abuse, and ultimately his fears of never making more of himself.
