Classic'ol'Tuesday. The day after the work week beginning and that day the specials were on in the Lakeside Mall - pure chaos.
Kohji stood behind the counter like he always does, he waits for customers, says 'Hi' when they enter and serve if they buy. The shop was always so quite for a Gaming store -you'd think kids would run around excited of the new releases, or teenages talking about the classics - but no, silent scuffles of the tough carpet and the faint sound of the music they played in-store. It got tiring after a few hours but this was it, this was Kohji's life in a nutshell.
"Yo- Santana!" called Kohji's work mate Travis from the storage room, "dude, you need to hear this shit"
What could possibly get Travis excited in a storage room other than unboxing the new games or the new Xbox360 for the shelves.
Kohji made his way over to the door, "dude, this is funny shit, I'll take over the counter while you talk to Leroy..." - "Trav-" - "It's worth it, trust me"
Kohji met Leroy, their manager, by the back door that led to the back of the mall. Leroy was leaning on the stair rails in the light rain outside the door and was looking to the loading docks while taking a drag of his cigarette.
"Travis said I need to talk to you?" Kohji slurred and lent on the rails, energy already drained from 4 hours at the counter. "Yeah... you know how boring this town is?" the man muttered, Kohji looked to the veiw as well, "oh yeah, I do".
The man stood upright and put out his cigarette butt in a old soda can he's used as an ashtray. "Well, We got some news kid, there's a trouble maker go'in'round the streets"
Kohji lightened up, a trouble maker in this town? It has to be fake news right?.
"Trouble maker as in?" he asked, the man looked down to him, "The news is go'in'round that this kid moved here with his parents and has been in a fair amount of fights- already he's got several fines"
"several?? woahhh" Kohji thought, that's hardcore!
"Wait, so why did I need to hear this?" he asked confused, there has to be something else to this conversation- Travis seemed amused by it.
"I'm telling all the staff, with fines comes having to pay them off."
Oh no.
"And with Christmas coming up, demand is high and...we need more staff" The man exhaled and looked to his employee who seemed rather calm about the situation.
"So put 2 and two together and we got our selves a new employee right?" Kohji added, calm as a cucumber - this shocked Leroy- "..yeah..you seem rather calm about it- Travis was trying to hide the fact he's scared, and Barker is dreading it"
Kohji seemed like he had a smile catching on -but it never really showed, "This will make things different, I'm cool with it" he said. Leroy smiled and patted his employee's shoulder, "You're a keeper Champ" he said.
Kohji wanted to ravel in the thought more that someone who fights will be coming to his work place that's stayed the same for so many years- he knew people around here are scared of violence and fighting is next-to-unheard of around here. This guy must be pretty cool he thought -
Thoughts were cut short when the two of them heard shouting coming from around the corner leading to the main car park far down. "That'll be him" Leroy said and walked down the stairs with a sigh, Kohji followed, he wanted to meet this new person despite the fact he is completely anti-social.
"Have you meet him yet?" he asked and walked just behind the man, "Of course I have kid, I don't give jobs out over the phone y'know".
"I FUCKING WORK HERE!" yelled what sounded like a really angry guy, and it was, no shock. Coming in to view was a guy Kohji has never seen before, the guy had light brown hair and he was wearing a rough-up leather jacket cover the same uniform - so this was the trouble maker.
He was tailed by 2 security guards who were trying to detain him, and without any form of hesitation - A brawl broke out. Kohji saw for the first time in his life, actual, fighting. He knew it was wrong of course, but coming from a guy who mastered Street Fighter, Tekken and close to Mortal Kombat- this was exciting. He hasn't felt that in a long time.
Leroy grabbed the angry guy by the arms and carried him, "You don't wanna add this one to the fine list do you Kye?"
Kye, the trouble maker.
"If they just left me the fuck alone, I didn't do anything but walk up this way like you told me to to get here!" Kye growled, he was calm now as he was standing and stared off the guards who now Leroy was talking to, to not go ahead with anything.
Kohji was trying so hard to not look at the guy, but he couldn't help but peek over, this dude was so cool, and he looked the part too.
Kye caught a glimpse and stared right at him intensely, Kohji didn't seem to get scared, and looked over too. Maybe this guy was used to scaring people off with looks, but for some reason he couldn't hold the eye contact and looked away "Keep to yourself." he growled.
Kohji thought about a response, couldn't think of one and shrugged his shoulders, "That's gonna be a bit hard, we work together now.".
Kye, the angry guy, tensed up. Was he about to hit him?.
"alright you two, time to work" Leroy breathed out and walked the two. "The day of reckoning 's apon us boys, all shops have unbeatable specials on and we have customers." The man loudly spoke over the rain.
